Establishing the mood with an astral frequency and textured percussion, Highroad No. 28 open Ache with dimensionality and a cinematic allure before the opus expands with industrial guitars and atmospheric vocals with the poignant lyrics, “My heart, like a final day, so cruel, you let me fade away…”

We appreciate the authenticity that the track exudes and the poetic prowess that Highroad No. 28 shares. There is a genre expansive vibe that manifests – it feels like The Cure’s grunge presence, but with a fresh sonic mix and a cinematic allure. There is no doubt that Ache would be perfect for a range of sync deals, perhaps a new version of Jersey Girl or Grosse Pointe Blank!

We learn that this release marks a return for the Australian alternative rock band after more than a decade. The song is designed to captures a deep sense of memory and longing, and serves as the first glimpse of their upcoming third album, The Will to Endure, which signals a darker, moodier and more mature sound for Highroad No. 28!

Recorded at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne and mixed by James Taplin, there is no doubt that Ache weaves intricate melodies with dynamic instrumentation, manifesting a cohesive tapestry of sound. A music video for the single is expected later this month, which we are excited to experience!

Formed in 1998, the band quickly made a name in the Australian heavy rock scene, releasing two EPs and two full-length albums before a long hiatus from 2012 to 2024. Frontman Andrew JC now handles all instruments and vocals on studio material, in turn, reconnecting with the band’s core identity.
