Peaked is shaping up to be one of the more talked-about comedy projects in development for 2026. The story centers on two women who dominated their high school years and now, a decade after graduating, are desperate to recapture that glory at their 10-year reunion. The central theme is nostalgic and chaotic, with a focus on female friendship, regret, and absurd attempts to relive youth. 

Storrie, who recently broke out with his role in Heated Rivalry, is currently in talks to join the ensemble cast. His specific character details have not yet been released, but the project will mark one of his first major film roles following his rising profile from that series. 

Gordon not only directs Peaked, she also stars in it and co-wrote the script with Allie Levitan, a writer and producer known for her work on Saturday Night Live. This continues Gordon’s growing career behind the camera after her successful creative collaborations on films such as Theater Camp. 

The cast is designed to be a mix of established stars and rising talent. Already confirmed to be involved are Laura Dern, Simone Ashley, Emma Mackey, Levon Hawke, Mitra Jouhari and Gabby Windey. These performers bring experience from both film and television, suggesting the project aims for a broad audience appeal with strong comedic and character work.

No trailer or release date has been announced, and creative details like specific character arcs or plot twists remain under wraps. The premise seems simple: an artist reuniting with an old collaborator to rebuild her image. But the collaborator in question – Sam Anselm, played by Michaela Coel – isn’t merely a costume designer. She’s the person who once gave Mary her surface. The woman who shaped her visual mythology. Someone who saw her before the world did, and maybe saw too much. Their reunion isn’t nostalgic; it’s destabilizing. In Lowery’s hands, the past isn’t a memory but a force, something that pulls, distorts and demands to be acknowledged.

The film’s early footage leans into that eerie tension. High-fashion imagery collides with a faint sense of ritual, as if creation itself is dangerous. Coel’s character warns, “There may only be one of us left standing when this is over.” Hathaway responds with consent, almost resignation. It hints at a story less about music than about the cost of self-manufacturing – what it requires to embody a persona so fully that returning to your original self feels impossible.

This philosophical strain is echoed in the film’s creative process. Hathaway immersed herself in vocal coaching and performance training not to imitate pop stardom but to understand the psychology of a person who lives on a stage. This project marks Charli xcx’s first film under her new production company, Studio365. It also serves as Zamiri’s feature-length directorial debut after helming several of Charli’s music videos, including 360 and Guess. He co-wrote the screenplay with Bertie Brandes, a culture writer known for her contributions to i-D, Dazed, and Vice.

Charli xcx will take on the lead role, bringing authenticity and a deeply personal perspective to the character. It has also been confirmed that the film will feature True Blood and Lady Gaga music video star Alexander Skarsgård, as well as Rosanna Arquette and Trew Mullen. A casting call posted in early 2025 revealed that the production was looking for actors to fill supporting roles, including a character named Maria, described as an “insightful healer” in her 40s to 60s. Additional casting details have yet to be announced.

The film’s music will be composed by A.G. Cook, the mastermind behind the influential PC Music label and one of Charli xcx‘s most trusted collaborators. Cook’s avant-garde production style has been instrumental in shaping Charli’s sound, particularly on her highly anticipated album Brat. His involvement in THE MOMENT suggests a soundtrack that will likely blend hyperpop aesthetics with an experimental cinematic score.

David Hinojosa of 2AM is producing the film with Charli xcx, with executive producers Brandon Creed, Mikey Schwartz-Wright, and Zach Nutman attached to the project. The partnership between A24 and Charli marks another step in the singer’s growing involvement in the film industry. In addition to THE MOMENT, she has a role in David Lowery’s Mother Mary, a pop melodrama also produced by A24, alongside I Want Your Sex, Faces of Death, and Sacrifice, which features Yung Lean.

No official release date has been announced, but THE MOMENT s already shaping up to be a unique addition to A24’s catalog, promising a sharp, self-aware critique of the music industry wrapped in Charli xcx’s signature aesthetic.
