The sonic design of the opus holds the potential to enhance neuroplasticity. We learn that the message of 1c4r0, which spells Icaro in Italian, is with reference the iconic tale of Icarus who ignored Daedalus’s instructions not to fly too close to the sun, causing the beeswax in his wings to melt and Icarus to fall from the sky, plunging into the sea, and drowning. The Italian lyrics convey a sense of technological enhancement and alienation, blending themes of transformation, enlightenment, and isolation.

More specifically, 1c4r0 was inspired by Elon Musk’s Neuralink. The creators divulge, “The implant allowed the patient to move a mouse on a screen. We realized that “wetware” is a reality and man-machine integration will be quite common in the future. Starting from this, we thought mankind is like Icarus trying to fly higher and higher to expand its power over nature. This will lead mankind to fly too close to the sun and then fall, just as Icarus did.”

AudioZona features Sandro Storri on synthesisers, whilst Adriano Testa shares his talent on vocals and bass. The duo cite Franco Battiato, Dream Theatre, Aphex Twin, Massive Attack, and Jean Michel Jarre as sonic influences, although there is no doubt that the creators are manifesting a universe of their own!
