We appreciate how these small details make the song so relatable. There is a cinematic nostalgia running through Residue, and we could imagine the track landing a sync placement in a movie like Voicemails from Isabelle, or a TV show like My Life with the Walter Boys.

There is also a contemporary indie-pop vibe here that would appeal to listeners of Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams and Lizzy McAlpine, but Residue feels less concerned with imitation than with honest storytelling. As her first major original release, Residue feels like a meaningful introduction to Lark’s universe.

We could imagine Bang Bang Zoom Zoom being featured in an episode of True Blood, or a movie like Blade. It would also be a great fit for the recent Oscar-winning, One Battle After Another. The guitar performances add dimensionality whilst melodic riffs tap into a more hypnotic and psychedelic manifestation.

In essence, the track is about feeling the moment before thinking about it. The relentless 128 BPM pulse, aggressive guitars and dark electronica create a sense of movement and physical release. We appreciate the production switch-ups, including a cerebral mandolin performance which keeps us enthralled throughout. It is an unexpected detail within such an electronically charged arrangement, adding another layer of character to a track that is already packed with contrasting sounds.

There is a clear sense that 12 Days Dead are not interested in making genre boundaries particularly important. Alternative rock, electro, industrial, synthwave and dance influences all collide here, but nothing feels like it has simply been added for decoration. The guitars have genuine attitude, the electronic elements provide the propulsion, and the hooks are designed to land immediately.

The result is visceral, cinematic and deliberately difficult to categorise. We can already picture the track accompanying a neon-soaked chase, a supernatural nightclub sequence or one of those beautifully chaotic film moments where everything suddenly accelerates.

Needless to say, Bang Bang Zoom Zoom makes for a dope introduction to 12 Days Dead. With its industrial textures, psychedelic guitar work, unexpected instrumentation and relentless electronic pulse, this is a track that lives by its own advice: Feel the Beat First. Think Later. We previously featured Piper Connolly for capturing the exhilaration of authentic human connection on her powerful single, Beautiful Life, so when we heard that the star was back with unapologetic, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in her universe once again.

unapologetic opens with a minimalist electric guitar riff as Piper sings, “Little reckless, over jealous, can’t help what I adore, love drunk, foolish, love drunk, clueless, what you waiting for?”. The opus expands with an infectious pop-rock energy as the guitars become increasingly animated and Piper’s vocals move between conversational intimacy and full-throttle melodic confidence.

We appreciate the lyrical perspective here, particularly the decision to embrace imperfection rather than attempting to package empowerment into something overly polished. Piper openly admits to being “little savage” and “over dramatic”, but there is no shame attached to these characteristics. Instead, they become part of the charm. 

There is a gorgeous Y2K pop-rock nostalgia running through the track too, but Piper gives it a contemporary alt-pop gloss. We can hear echoes of the bratty confidence of Avril Lavigne, the theatrical pop-rock sensibilities of Paramore, and even some of the playful attitude associated with Olivia Rodrigo. Speaking on the release, Piper says, “It was a super, super natural writing process. It’s all about being yourself and not being sorry. This is who I am and I’m going to be myself, no matter what. Even if I’m flawed, I’m going to wear those flaws.”

“No I’m not sorry, I’m unapologetic…” feels designed to be screamed like a mantra and life philosophy, rather than quietly contemplated. There is something very Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, The Princess Diaries and 10 Things I Hate About You about the spirit of it.

Cinematically, we could also see unapologetic absolutely thriving in a coming-of-age film or teen series like Never Have I Ever, Heartstopper or Amazon’s new Legally Blonde prequel, Elle. It has that rare soundtrack quality and a great life message. Drawing us in with an ethereal synthscape with delicate vocals and textured percussion motifs, s_cøw opens Night Goes Cold with dimensionality and poetic prowess. There is an immediate sense of late-night vibes and intimacy at play here. The production feels both spacious and cinematic.

We appreciate the electronica floating around the vocals, whilst the somewhat understated rhythm gives everything an effortless and hypnotic energy. Lyrically, Night Goes Cold is open for deep interpretation, but also captures the familiar tension of attraction when there is a limited window to make a move.

The relaxed flow gives the song a contemporary edge, perfect for TikTok videos, and even includes the words within the prose. It sits comfortably between alternative R&B, dark pop and hip-hop without feeling tied to one particular genre. Visually, we can imagine Night Goes Cold landing a sync placement in a show like Euphoria on HBO or the FX series Adults.

That cinematic quality makes sense when looking at s_cøw’s creative process. Every song begins as an image, with the melody following afterwards. Rather than building around a fixed genre, the artist chooses sounds according to the scene and feeling they want to create. Night Goes Cold feels like a strong example of that approach, with every element serving the atmosphere. We love the glitched and gated vocals and the psychedelic nuances. Fans of early Doja Cat would love this.

The artist confesses, “Every song starts with a feeling or a visual scene. I usually imagine a single moment first, then let the melody grow naturally from it. Rather than staying within one genre, I choose the sound that best brings each moment to life.”

Following our previous feature on KaiserKillers, who caught our attention with the zeitgeist-revamped mix of Love Conquers All, the Colchester outfit return with something a little bit different for their new single, Isolation.

Opening with a simple, catchy guitar figure and a bright, driving rhythm, Isolation immediately feels lighter than some of the band’s more dense material. There is still that unmistakable KaiserKillers guitar vibe, but the production is notably stripped back.

We particularly connect with the contrast at the heart of the song. Isolation came from two very different interpretations of the same idea. For Johnny Zero, isolation is something positive. The idea of escaping the noise, pressure and endless demands of modern life and simply enjoying one’s own company. Andy DeForest, meanwhile, took the darker route, seeing it through the lens of social detachment, abandonment and heartbreak. The result is a song that manages to be upbeat, whilst carrying a little emotional tension underneath.

That contrast gives the lyrics plenty of personality. Johnny’s vision of disappearing from the world with no telephone, no transport, no news. Yes, it sounds idyllic. Andy’s contribution brings the reality of being left behind into sharper focus. The lighthouse reference towards the end adds another nice touch, particularly given Johnny’s apparent enthusiasm for the idea of a job where he could avoid people altogether.

Musically, Isolation shows a different side to KaiserKillers. That restraint works. The shimmering guitars, sneering vocal delivery and propulsive drums still carry their PowerPopPunk identity, but there is also a more melodic, almost folk-rock quality running through the track.

It is easy to hear the band’s influences without the song becoming an exercise in nostalgia. There are traces of the melodic punk of Buzzcocks and The Only Ones, alongside the guitar-led urgency of The Smiths, Blondie and, naturally, the melodic spirit of the Beatles.

Recorded largely at Strawberry Field Studio in Colchester, the track is a reminder that KaiserKillers don’t need a wall of guitars to make an impact. Sometimes a strong riff, a sharp lyric and a good story are enough.

Following our previous feature on Rusty Reid, who impressed us with his thoughtful, microtonal interpretation of Blue Water Highway’s Alchemist, the Texas-born singer-songwriter is back with a new take on another iconic song: Johnny Nash’s 1972 classic, I Can See Clearly Now.

I Can See Clearly Now opens with textured drums and a glistening guitar soundscape. It immediately gives the song a warm, cinematic quality. We love the way Rusty approaches such a familiar classic. Instead of trying to completely reinvent it, he keeps the joy and simplicity of the OG version, whilst bringing his own voice and guitar work into the arrangement.

For some background, Johnny Nash’s version became a No. 1 hit in 1972 and remains one of those songs that feels super familiar. Its message is simple but long lasting. It’s optimistic and metaphorical showing us that the clouds have cleared, the difficult days are behind us, and there is a sense of freedom ahead. Rusty clearly understands what makes the song work and avoids overcomplicating it.

We learn that this was also a conscious decision on his part. After listening to numerous covers, Rusty felt that versions which tried to make the song edgier, heavier or more dramatic often lost the authentic optimism of Nash’s original. Instead, he asked Nashville musician Jed Demlow to create an arrangement that stayed close to the spirit of the 1972 recording.

We particularly enjoy the vocals, which feel natural and unforced, as well as the guitar work that becomes more prominent towards the third verse and outro. His 1966 Gibson ES-330 adds a distinctive Rusty touch to the track, helping it feel like an interpretation rather than simply another cover.

There is also something obviously cinematic about I Can See Clearly Now. Johnny Nash’s original has appeared in films like Thelma & Louise and Grosse Pointe Blank, whilst Jimmy Cliff’s later version became closely associated with Cool Runnings. Rusty’s version has the same quality.

As part of Lone Stardust (Masterworks of Texas Songwriters), the song also feels right at home. Nash was born in Houston, giving Rusty another connection to the Texas songwriting tradition that shapes the album.

Needless to say, we are very happy to welcome Rusty Reid back. I Can See Clearly Now is a respectful, warm and genuinely enjoyable interpretation that keeps the magic of Johnny Nash’s original while making room for Rusty’s own sound. The composition immediately feels like neon lights, late nights and city energy as the Bay Area artist brings us into his universe with swagger.

We appreciate the lyrics which feel like a manifestation or mantra for abundance. We are met with a playful, hedonistic celebration of nightlife, attraction and living in the moment. There is a knowingly cheeky quality to the songwriting, with candy-coated metaphors, flirtatious wordplay and an unapologetically adult sense of humour.

There is also a really interesting futuristic quality to the production. Those textured vocal details and dimensional layers give the track a polished, almost sci-fi edge, while underneath it all is that unmistakable California DNA. Coastal cities aside, we could also imagine the track securing a sync placement in Adults or Beauty in Black.

There is a nostalgic essence to the record too, almost like a modern take on the larger-than-life energy of early 2000s MTV, when hip-hop videos were unapologetically excessive, glossy and designed to make nightlife look like the centre of the universe. We get flashes of that TRL-era bravado here, but filtered through a more futuristic Bay Area lens, giving Balling in the Club the kind of playful excess that feels right at home somewhere between a late-night Fast & Furious scene and a glossy music-video montage.

And while Balling in the Club is very much about having a good time, knowing the story behind BR33Z WORLD adds another layer to the experience. This is an artist whose music has been shaped by survival, resilience and rebuilding, having survived being shot multiple times and having to relearn basic abilities during his recovery.

That duality is what makes BR33Z WORLD interesting. The last time that we featured Grim Logick was when he explored addiction, survival, and self-awareness on Trauma Pit (Call The Bluff), so when we heard that Grim was back as a feature on Odds Got Me by MaTT DoDD, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Odds Got Me opens with an ethereal and melodic guitar soundscape that crescendos into cerebral atmospheric ad-libs featuring the title of the track. The first verse is delivered by MaTT DoDD as he raps, “Yo, odds got me beat a million to one, but that don’t mean that I ain’t the one, don’t give a fuck which band you rock, ain’t gonna stop ’til I’m on the top…”

In essence, the track is about facing difficult situations, being underestimated, yet still refusing to give up. MaTT DoDD shares the analogy of the odds being stacked against him but how he stays real, working towards the top, and ignoring the people who pretend to be great without putting in the effort.

We appreciate the subversive vocal design that embodies notions of glitch-rap that feels highly contemporary even though the main body of the soundscape holds a 90s nostalgia at the same time. Grim Logick shares his personal struggles, mistakes, and difficult past on the chorus and cements his resilience and how he is building a better version of himself. He also talks about wanting to succeed for his daughters and leave something meaningful behind. This is something that we have previously experienced within the narrative of his artistry.

Overall, the song has a strong message of self-belief, growth, and determination at a time when many of us need to hear this. Basically, the song says that even when life pushes us to the edge, we can keep fighting, learn from our problems, and never let weakness or other people’s opinions stop us.

For some context, MaTT DoDD is an independent underground hip-hop artist based in Havana, Florida, and has spent more than a decade building his music career. It is clear that he is a determined artist who refuses to let his physical challenges of muscular dystrophy or the difficulties of the music industry stop him.

We learn that he has also built strong connections with other independent artists and the 3NIGMA BRED MUSIC, and that he has already released a 23-track project FULL FORCE. Odds Got Me is an advance track from his upcoming sophomore album, FULL FORCE 2 which serves as a record built around one idea: overwhelming odds do not get to determine the outcome.

MaTT DoDD produced and wrote the track with Grim Logick as featured artist, songwriter, and executive producer, whilst Dylan Droll handled the final mastering as a longtime creative associate of Grim Logick. Odds Got Me holds an undeniable cinematic allure, and we could imagine the track being featured in a film like the recent Oscar-winning film One Battle After Another, or an episode of Beauty in Black on Netflix.

The most brilliant and authentic element of the track is that Matt acknowledges that the odds really are stacked against him whilst refusing to let probability determine outcome. Grim takes the idea further, reframing problems, habits and past mistakes to build a better version of himself. What makes the collaboration particularly effective is that the two artists aren’t telling exactly the same story, but both arrive at the same conclusion.

Tate McRae has added another major fashion moment to an already huge year, becoming the face of Calvin Klein’s Fall 2026 denim campaign, “Feel the Fit.” Launched globally on August 25, the campaign puts McRae’s background as a professional dancer front and centre, with the singer moving, stretching and dancing through a series of cinematic scenes while wearing Calvin Klein’s latest denim styles.

The campaign was directed and photographed by Carlijn Jacobs, while the choreography was created by Sergio Reis. The accompanying film uses Deee-Lite’s 1990 hit “Groove Is in the Heart,” giving the campaign a deliberately nostalgic ’90s Calvin Klein feel while still making it distinctly Tate. Calvin Klein says creators will also be invited to recreate Reis’ choreography for social media, meaning the dance could have a life beyond the original advert.

Perhaps the most impressive detail is just how quickly McRae had to learn the choreography. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she revealed that she had only around 20 minutes to learn the movements before filming. Rather than seeing the pressure as a problem, McRae said she actually enjoys that kind of spontaneity and having to react to the space in the moment. It is a particularly revealing detail considering how technically demanding her performances have become.

Online, the campaign has generated plenty of attention. A major talking point has been the comparison with Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle denim campaign, with some social-media users noting similarities between the blonde stars, provocative styling and the wider celebrity-jeans trend. However, coverage has also highlighted what makes McRae’s campaign different: Calvin Klein is using her dancing ability as the central selling point rather than relying solely on still images or a provocative slogan.

Meanwhile, fans are also watching closely for McRae’s fourth studio album. Her previous album, So Close to What, arrived in February 2025 and became her first Billboard 200 No. 1. McRae has confirmed that she is working on the follow-up and recently joked about fans complaining that she is “everywhere but the studio,” insisting that she is, in fact, recording.

There is no official release date yet, so claims that the album is definitely arriving on a particular date should be treated as speculation. Fans have spotted possible clues suggesting an October announcement, but nothing has been confirmed.
