Drawing us in with a vinyl texture, an enigmatic rippling melody and astral flute details, R3b3l I opens A Different Frequency with a track called Dance Before the Throne. The opus expands with syncopated percussion notions, vintage brass notions and a hypnotic allure.

We appreciate the meditative notions and poetic ebbs and flows. An almost industrial, minimalist moment taps into a more stripped-back vibe before a melodic reprise. There is a psychedelic adjacency to the piece which we can imagine might evolve on a more pronounced level throughout the record.

Next up is Elevate, which opens with the sound of a scratching record, followed by glistening, astral keys. This piece feels enlightening, but also evokes notions of timeless jazz with a futuristic edge. It’s already clear that the record as a whole has been designed with an intention to create a unique and cohesive tapestry of sound. Industrial soft textures detail the piece, and we appreciate the intricacy that manifests.

The Wave taps into a similar sentiment from its predecessors, cementing the overarching mood of the album. The drum work feels like the first moments of a DMT experience, whilst the repeated motifs tap into a more melodic psychedelic frequency. We love how the melodies pull out to unveil the soft textures, waving in and out, aligned with the title of the track.

This brings us to I AM Power, which opens with bell tones, tripping into a more traditional jazz energy. Of course, the piece still has a syncopated and contemporary feel that is also rather zen – perfect for a night drive, or a hatha yoga class.

The Jazzy Hop teases us with percussion before unveiling a more high-octane energy with an intricate and dynamic piano riff. The brass is refined and the track could be a great opener for a 90s TV show. Each track thus far has its own unique sonic identity, almost like a refined jingle, attuned with commercial value.

Next is Level Up, which has the most immersive synth performance that we have experienced thus far. This is accompanied by piano arpeggios and a spacey, astral frequency. It reminds us of early Kanye West, and we appreciate the subtle build of the track and the hypnotic notions. It’s also a rather cinematic track, perfect for the score of a TV show like Euphoria on HBO.

Carousel opens with percussive clicks and cosmic keys with textured drums. Once again, the piece is minimalist but also dimensional. This is certainly a USP of the album, it invites reflection at the same time as not being overstimulating. It’s perfect to work or study to. Raindrops is a masterclass in wordpainting, whilst Awaken invites a higher spiritual quotient. The pizzicato details are sublime and the whimsical details with Eastern notions manifest as one of the most unique and interesting tracks on the record.

This leads seamlessly to Your Majesty, which has a more traditional piano feel evoking 90s hip-hop motifs. Heartbeat feels like a Daft Punk moment, much more futuristic at first, but intertwined with a highly meditative piano moment. The more cerebral elements are juxtaposed by a constant melody. The horns design is genius and keeps us enthralled.

Finally, we experience Ancestors, dubbed by the artist as “the spiritual closing chapter”. R3b3l I shares that the album is designed to explore “what it means to evolve while remaining connected to your roots.” He says, “Each track is a chapter. The story is yours to write.”

We love the result, a consistent, cohesive and immersive sonic experience that is refined, poetic and innovative, inviting introspection and zen at the same time. We have added Dance Before the Throne to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to explore R3b3l I’s wider discography, including Beams, and Flight.

Establishing the mood with textured percussion, cerebral guitar details, and subversive ad-libs, itssmill opens SORA with an almost tribal, spiritual sentiment. The opening verse kicks off with the assertive lyrics, “Everybody in their feelings, too much fake aura in the section, got me leaving, all I wanna do is stack up to the ceiling, racks up racks up ’til they fill the whole building…”

We immediately connect with the dimensionality of the production and itssmill‘s laid-back vocal timbre with a self-realized message. SORA unveils itself as a motivational anthem about ambition, self-belief and the idea of staying focused despite obstacles.

The vocal production is industrial and psychedelic. This is also reflected in the song’s artwork which features little baggies, a bong, a Van Gogh, trainers, keys and metallic text. The track also has a cinematic allure, perfect for a range of sync placements. It would be a good fit for a scene in a show like Elite, Beauty in Black or Knokke Off on Netflix, perhaps Euphoria on HBO. We could also imagine SORA being featured in a film like Marty Supreme, as it is aligned with the themes of the track.

itssmill shares how he is someone who refuses to be distracted by negativity, fakeness, or emotional baggage. He chooses instead to concentrate on building his own success and wealth through a relentless work ethic. This transpires in the production of the track and the attention to detail in his overarching artistry.

The rising artist from Amsterdam emphasizes confidence in his ability to succeed even when he’s struggling, believing that action is more important than waiting for opportunities. From a brief chat with the artist earlier, that authenticity really shines through in how he communicates.

He says, “This song comes from a period where I was focused on growth, both personally and creatively. I was surrounded by a lot of noise, fake energy, and people talking more than acting, which pushed me to focus even harder on my own path. The track is about ambition, resilience, and trusting the process even when the results aren’t visible yet. It reflects my belief that success comes from consistency, discipline, and staying true to yourself. At its core, it’s also a thank you to the people who have supported me since day one and a reminder to keep moving forward no matter what stands in your way.”

The lyrics also touch on the pressure of growth, and acknowledge that some people resent itssmill‘s progress (we know how it feels to have jealous haters) while others secretly support him. In the final lines, itssmill expresses gratitude to his day ones, and recognizes his own worth.

As for influences, it does feel like itssmill is in a league of his own, although he cites Lil Uzi Vert, Travis Scott, Yeat, Central Cee, and Mac Miller as sonic influences, which we can also feel manifest.

Needless to say, we appreciate the message and the confidence that itssmill creates with, and have added SORA to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream itssmill‘s wider discography, including ROADHOUSE, NO TIME, and SOLID.

Most of us can easily recall a song lyric from years ago without even trying, right? A few words heard during childhood, a memorable chorus fro our teenage years, or a line that perfectly captured a particular moment in our lives can stay with us for the rest of our lives, While melodies can definitely play an important role in a song’s appeal to us, it is most often the lyrics that create an emotional connection with us and make the songs we love so unforgettable.

But why is it that some lyrics stay with is for a lifetime while others fade away? The answer lies in a combination of emotion, storytelling, timing, and human psychology.

They connect to powerful emotions

The songs we remember most are often tied to strong emotions. Music has an incredible ability to amplify feelings, whether those feelings are happiness, heartbreak, hope, nostalgia, or excitement. When lyrics express emotions we have experienced ourselves, they become more meaningful.

A simple line can remind us of:

A first love

A difficult period

A major achievement

A family memory

A special friendship

The stronger the emotional connection, the more likely the lyric is to remain in our memory.

They tell relatable stories

Humans naturally respond to stories, after all, we have been gathering around fires and telling tales ever since we developed language, right?

So, it is fair to say that many of the most memorable songs in our lives are the ones that contain narratives that we can understand or identify with. Even if the details differ from the things we ourselves have gone through the themes often feel pretty universal.

Songs about love, loss, resilience, belonging, and personal growth all resonate because they reflect the kinds of experience that most of us have had in our lives, and great lyricists often manage to make their personal stories ones that are surprisingly universal in some way.

They capture a moment perfectly

Sometimes a lyric becomes unforgettable because it expresses exactly what we needed to hear at a particular point in our lives.

A song discovered during a major life transition can become permanently associated with that experience. Years later, hearing those same words may instantly transport us back to that moment.

Music often becomes the soundtrack to our memories. This emotional time capsule effect helps explain why certain lyrics feel so significant long after they were first heard.

They offer hope or meaning

People often love and hold on to lyrics that provide them with comfort, encouragement, or perspective on a situation they are going through or have gone through in the past. A well-written line can serve as a reminder that challenges can be overcome or that tough emotions are shared by so many people. It can lift people up when they are feeling down, much like A Day Like This by Elbow does for so many people with its message about gratitude and happiness.

Music makes us feel understood, and because we find meaning and understanding, we keep listening. The words often evolve as our own experiences grow and change, but they are always there as a guide.

It’s really not surprising that some lyrics stay with us, is it?

Drawing us in with an immersive piano performance, tapping into a high emotional quotient, halftouch open Watch Us Fly with introspective depth and atmospheric vocals with the lyrics, “I’ve been walking around town, trying to figure out how, I don’t wanna leave, I still want it all, I was driving out last night, trying to figure out why, you never could decide, if you wanted more…”

In essence, Watch Us Fly is about struggling to let go of a relationship. halftouch tap into the feelings of reflection and uncertainty which leave us confused, restless, and emotionally overwhelmed, to the point of crazy.

It is hugely relatable and cinematic. We could imagine Watch Us Fly being featured in a film like Drive, or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It would also work in a TV show like Euphoria or Heated Rivalry on HBO.

Even when questioning whether they would be better off alone, they cannot stop loving the other person. At the same time, the song expresses hope of salvation. The Derbyshire-based duo acknowledges the obstacles, referring to “puzzles and walls,” but says they would face them all if their partner would make an effort.

Although risky and unrealistic, we are still invited to dream of rebuilding a relationship and “flying” together. The duo tells us, “It’s about the hope of where things can lead if you trust in the moment.”

The production is sublime, and fans of MGMT would absolutely be able to connect with halftouch‘s ethereal sound. They also cite Bon Iver, Novo Amor, Regina Spektor and Joni Mitchell as sonic influences.

Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Watch Us Fly to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from halftouch!

Drawing us in with a textured drum riff, expanding into a retro energy featuring an epic brass arrangement, crowd noise and a timeless rock-and-roll sentiment, Jetlag open Prozac Nation with the thought-provoking lyrics, “You’re waking up in a Prozac nation, you don’t know where to get your information, there’s autism in the tylenol, it doesn’t make any sense at all…”

We immediately connect with the concept of the song and the intelligence of the metaphors. The poetic prowess is tangible, and essentially, Prozac Nation paints a picture of a society that feels confused, divided and overwhelmed by information.

The title of the track, Prozac Nation, historically suggests a culture that is emotionally exhausted and reliant on medication. It is also the title of a 2001 psychological drama film directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg, starring Christina Ricci, Jason Biggs, Anne Heche, and Michelle Williams.

Naturally, the lyrics of the song reference media, censorship, misinformation, insomnia, and constant screen use, which again feels very zeitgeist 25 years after the release of the film. The song creates the image of a generation struggling to find truth or stability.

At the same time, the song serves as a criticism of modern American culture and the evident political polarization. The repeated contrasts of “left is right” and “good guy gone bad” clearly suggest a world where moral and political boundaries have become blurred.

The final message is that of oneness, with the line, “turns out we’re all the same”, which implies that beneath political and cultural divides, many of us share the same fears, struggles, and desires.

The London-based band tells us, “At its core, the song reflects on the chaos and contradictions of the modern world. It explores a cultural landscape where yesterday’s heroes have become today’s villains, while much of society appears to be sleepwalking through the upheaval. The result is a track that feels both timeless and sharply relevant, balancing infectious grooves with thought-provoking themes.”

Jetlag cite The Rolling Stones, The Black Keys, Primal Scream and Bob Dylan as sonic influences, and we can absolutely feel that manifest. We could also imagine the track locking in a multitude of sync placements, notably a film that touches upon these themes, such as Fight Club, Joker, The Purge, V for Vendetta, or Don’t Look Up.

We love what Jetlag are creating, and have added Prozac Nation to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from Jetlag!

Establishing the mood with textured, airy percussion, expanding with a dark-wave and dimensional soundscape featuring atmospheric vocals, Reduction in Force opens Reconcile with cinematic intrigue.

The opus evolves with poetic prowess and metaphorical depth as we are taken on a cerebral journey of interpersonal reckoning. We appreciate the dynamism of the track, the guitar performances are exquisite, whilst the philosophical and high concept prose taps into relatable themes.

We could imagine Reconcile being featured as a sync placement in a film like Limitless, Enter The Void, or perhaps a TV episode of something more psychedelic like Nine Perfect Strangers. It is no surprise that listeners describe Reduction in Force‘s visceral energy as “Roger Waters‘ voice in the body of Trent Reznor evoking the post punk energy of early Killers.”

Reduction in Force cites musical influences including Ian Curtis of Joy Division, The Edge of U2, Michael Hutchence of INXS, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, and the members of Depeche Mode – Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher, and Alan Wilder.

We can absolutely feel this manifest on Reconcile, although it is also clear that Mike Mills, the artist behind Reduction in Force, is creating a vision of his own design.

We learn that Reduction in Force is Mike’s solo project. He turned to songwriting after ending a 25-year legal career, and works closely with Alex Aldi on production! Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Reconcile to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Reduction in Force, including World Full of Echoes, Images of Heaven, and We Run.

The last time that we featured Klein & Jamison was when they delivered a dramatic and dynamic ode to a late friend with the orchestral EP, Sailing Symphony, so when we heard that the composers were back with Piano Trio No. 2 “Mary Margaret”, which also sadly serves as an elegy to Jim Klein‘s infant granddaughter who died 90 minutes after she was born, we were curious and keen to explore the depth of what they had to offer.

The album opens with Allegro Agitato, featuring cinematic, orchestral strings and an emotive piano that manifests in a melancholic energy. The piece grows with drama and intrigue as it swells into a crescendo reminding us of early Modest Mussorgsky

. There is an undeniable instrumental mastery that comes to life. The pizzicato strings intertwine with the layered keys to create delicate ebbs and flows bringing to life dreamy, fantastical motifs, followed by more cerebral moments. The cello solo is sublime, a moment of respite before a reprise of the original melody and eventual re-build with dimensionality and a high emotional quotient. The cohesiveness of the ostinato and adagio strings fused with the piano is quite remarkable, and keeps us in awe throughout the piece. The final moments are delicate and invite introspection.

This leads us to Animato which opens with a more optimistic edge. Sonically, it feels like this serves as a moment of acceptance. There is an elegance to the piece, almost heavenly. The piano solos are delicate, echoed by the strings, building into an almost hypnotic and cathartic repetition pattern. We learn a lot from the YouTube Shorts shared by the creators on their collaborative process, and this is really echoed within this track. Again, the piece builds with bass-driven drama from the piano and truly delivers compositional excellence.

Adagietto maintains the drama and cinematic allure, whilst tapping into a higher emotional quotient. The piano is bolder, whilst also creating more space between the instruments. The delicate motifs are welcome, and there is a subtle folk-adjacency with the strings. The piece also holds an almost mediative energy with its stripped-back moments. We appreciate the range of the keys, whilst it also maintains cinematic flair.

Presto Con Fuoco opens with a dynamic and intricate piano solo, evolving with brooding strings. The detail is almost psychedelic. We appreciate the existentialism and the instrumental mastery. Aligned with the title of the track, the speed that the composition manifests with is high-octane. It is also the longest track on the album, and the technical detail is truly awe-inspiring. The rippling astral keys allude to spiritual ascension, and these are juxtaposed with dramatic string chops and a dark, theatrical expression mid-way through the piece. This builds with grandeur through to the finale.

Finally, we experience Andante Con Moto, which opens with a more peaceful resonance – a sentiment of acceptance and gratitude. The strings and piano reflect each other, and we appreciate the vulnerability that manifests. There is a raw sentimentality that comes through whilst the emotional quotient remains high. Eventually, the piece taps into a lighter energy, regal in its design, a perfect send-off for Mary Margaret, a reminder that life is infinite and that the astral realm is a safe space where music, life and death can coexist on an infinite level. The positive climax is symbolic of acceptance.

Our obsession with ReeToxA seems to grow with every listen. We last featured them as they channelled punk chaos and anti-war commentary on the explosive single, War Killer, so when we heard that they were back with Love Keeps Burning Still, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Love Keeps Burning Still opens with an elegant and immersive piano performance with an orchestral and meditative synth as they share the lyrics, “Tell me all about it, can your heart beat still, what I’d give for a touch of your grace…”

The opus expands with poetic prowess and a high emotional quotient, as we are taken on a sublime and authentic journey of human connection. We love the production and the timeless nature of what manifests. The astral ad-libs are sublime and the build with a strings soundscape and epic drums really taps into our heart’s centre.

The lineup for Love Keeps Burning Still features Kit Riley on bass (Robbie Williams, Ross Wilson), James Ryan on guitar (Ross Wilson, Men At Work), and Peter Marin on drums (Jet, Ross Wilson), alongside Terry Hart on piano. The Budapest strings orchestra from Europe was brought on remotely, and for this duet, Riley enlisted his wife Jessica McPherson-Riley, who shares her vocal talents as well as the universal perspective on the connection. It’s incredible.

Love Keeps Burning Still holds a cinematic vibe which would be perfect for a movie like Office Romance on Netflix, or a contemporary re-creation of The Notebook. It’s beautiful and tender, and the piano outro is delicate and graceful. This is also a great example of the genre-expansive versatility that ReeToxA can offer!

Drawing us in with an astral frequency, a dimensional bass performance and textured drums, HMRC open Yankee Candle – Live with an assertive spoken word delivery as they shares the prose, “Well, it’s been six months now and I’m starting to forget, I’ve done myself no good, but the demons, they’re out my head…”

The opus expands with poetic prowess and raw authenticity as HMRC convey “a chilling fictional tale chronicling a jealous ex-boyfriend’s plot to murder his former girlfriend and her new lover.” It’s visceral with cultural motifs, an unhinged energy and a pretty relatable vibe overall!

Fans of The Streets will be able to connect with this, and we could imagine it being featured in a TV show like The Girlfriend on Amazon Prime. The tempo shifts are genius and chaotic, and we love the fact that the track is recorded live. Speaking on why, HMRC say, “The live recording was chosen as it highlights the chaos of the story rather than a watered down studio [version].”

The growls and “woo” sounds add an almost possessed energy before they share, “I still have a key to her house…” which then go on to literally document the murder and the murder weapon – a nearby Yankee Candle. It’s kinda shocking, but also funny as hell.

We learn that songwriter Lloyd Holmes believed “he needed therapy after rereading the lyrics for the first time.” I think we need some therapy too, although the track itself is highly cathartic for anyone who has homicidal feelings about their ex and needs some release.

Naturally, we are shook and gagged, and have added Yankee Candle – Live to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of HMRC, including Boots on the Ground, and Adenosine.

Establishing the mood with an ethereal guitar melody and subtle percussion textures, Nelida Oyma opens Silent Haze with spiritual depth and a meditative energy. The opus expands with a cerebral texture that feels airy and cosmic. This leads us through to an 8-bit synth detail with panning frequencies, creating a mystical vibe.

The production evolves with various pizzicato guitar motifs into a dimensional and cinematic guitar soundscape. We appreciate the soft and psychedelic drums and the overarching build of the composition which taps into a genre-expansive house meets chill wave identity.

The build is sublime and intriguing and we could imagine this being featured in a TV show like the trippy Nine Perfect Strangers, or even PLUR1BUS as a score. The ebbs and flows are intricate and poetic, and the composition would also be perfect for a vinyasa yoga class.

It is clear that Nelida Oyma has designed the sound with an attention to detail and the bass guitar that emerges towards the end really zooms into the human nature of the piece. We learn that Silent Haze is inspired by “early mornings in the mountains, when fog slowly moves through the forest and clouds drift between the trees and the slopes.”

Speaking on the release, Nelida Oyma adds, “More than a place, Silent Haze captures a fleeting moment: the fresh air, the light and the feeling of motion in a landscape that is constantly changing.”

Fans of Tycho, Kiasmos, Christian Löffler and Rival Consoles might be able to connect with the piece, but it is clear that Nelida Oyma is designing a sonic universe of his own manifestation, focused on texture, movement and atmosphere.

We love the journey that Nelida Oyma is taking us on, and have added Silent Haze to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography, including Electric Dawn, and Proxima.
