Few films arrive already carrying the electric charge of a midnight movie legend, but Forbidden Fruits does exactly that. The 2026 release feels less like a new film and more like a long-lost classic that somehow slipped through time, arriving fully formed with the attitude, style, and razor-sharp bite of the best cult teen dark comedies. Like Heathers, Jawbreaker, Cruel Intentions, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Jennifer’s Body, The Craft, and even Mean Girls at its most vicious, Forbidden Fruits understands that teenage desire, social warfare, and identity crises are often best explored through heightened reality and deliciously sharp satire.

What makes Forbidden Fruits instantly unforgettable is its refusal to play things safely. It leans into glamour and danger with complete confidence, creating a world where every hallway conversation feels like a duel and every outfit is part of the storytelling. Its visual language is lush, hyper-stylized, and intoxicating, balancing dreamlike beauty with a sense of lurking menace. Like Jawbreaker’s candy-colored cruelty or Heathers’ suburban nightmare dressed in prep school blazers, Forbidden Fruits builds a universe that feels both exaggerated and emotionally true.

At the center is a script that knows exactly how to weaponize wit. The dialogue snaps with quotable precision, the kind of lines audiences repeat for years because they are funny, brutal, and strangely profound all at once. Cult classics survive because they speak in a language their audience wants to adopt, and Forbidden Fruits is full of those lines, moments, and glances that immediately become cultural shorthand.

But style alone never creates a cult classic. What elevates Forbidden Fruits is its emotional intelligence beneath the gloss. Like Jennifer’s Body, it uses genre to talk about power, female rage, friendship, and the violence of expectation. Like The Craft, it examines what happens when belonging becomes more dangerous than isolation. Its satire lands because it is rooted in real anxieties about beauty, status, sexuality, and survival.

The performances seal its legacy. Every great cult film needs actors who understand the assignment, not realism, but truth through performance. Forbidden Fruits has that fearless commitment. Its cast embraces the heightened tone without losing vulnerability, making the characters iconic rather than caricatures.

The result is a film that feels instantly rewatchable, endlessly discussable, and destined for revival screenings, themed parties, and academic essays alike. Forbidden Fruits is not simply inspired by the great cult classics before it. It earns its place beside them. It arrives already knowing that the best teen movies are never really about teenagers, they are about power, performance, and the beautiful horror of becoming yourself.

Drawing us in with a dark Americana guitar soundscape, filled with mystique and drama in the wake of the full moon, Road Movie open Candyman / For the Night with the visually striking lyrics, “Pterodactyl love, I got you wrapped inside my wings, I’m floating over the rollercoaster, over everything, I’ll take you back to my liar, I wanna make you something sweet, I’m a million years old, but you know I still gotta eat…”

The switch-up that follows is sublime – tapping into a lighter, more playful and euphoric energy, before the pulsating, brooding guitars return for a sonic interlude. We are obsessed with the power pop harmonies, evoking notions of the 60s, and the sonic ebbs and flows of the track which create an unmistakable cinematic allure.

Visually, the lyrics are so descriptive already – it feels like we are in a metaphorical movie, but there is also no doubt that the track would be perfect for a multitude of sync placements, perhaps a reboot of True Blood, or a pivotal scene in a TV show like the psychedelic Nine Perfect Strangers.

The instrumental solo is sublime, almost transcendental, inviting us into an introspective state yet fully hypnotised by the mastery of the performances before a final reprise.

We learn that Road Movie brings together a tight-knit group of longtime friends and seasoned musicians whose chemistry has been shaped through years of collaboration across Los Angeles, New York City, and beyond.

The band features brothers Justin and Nathan Clay, alongside lead guitarist Nathan Goldstein, bassist Matt Garton, guitarist Irakli Gabriel, drummer Beak Wing, and multi-instrumentalist Johnny Johnston. Their bond began as an annual friends’ trip which gradually evolved into a songwriting and recording retreat in the high desert of southern Utah.

Their sound is deeply inspired by the classic rock of their parents’ generation, embracing muscular rhythms, soaring guitar work and strong vocal harmonies that draw from the rich Americana textures of The War on Drugs, Wilco, and Ween, they also lean into the cinematic sonic explorations of Radiohead, but it is clear that Road Movie are manifesting an identity unto their own design.

We will be adding Candyman / For the Night to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the band, including their 2024 album,Long Night in the Afterlife.

We previously featured EGGER when he took us on a cerebral trip through digital dystopia with his dimensional debut composition, Strange Behaviour, so when we heard that the rising composer was back with I Breathe, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in his universe once more.

I Breathe opens with a gated, psychedelic energy with a meditative frequency, a static synth, ad-libs of the title of the track and a pulsating kick. The mix is sublime, intricate, masterful and captivating. We are hypnotized by the build of the journey, the cerebral moments with additional vocals and the dynamism that manifests.

The 80s-adjacency with an 8-bit nuance is absolutely sublime. The prose invites introspection, like the voices in our heads, but with the intention of reminding us to connect through breath for peace and unity.

Speaking on the release, EGGER says, “The production has a deliberately pared-down feel: every
sound has space, every impulse is precisely placed.” We could imagine the track on a fashion runway, or for an ad campaign of a major design house, perhaps Jean Paul Gaultier, as there is a light-heartedness to the high spiritual quotient too. Fans of William Orbit will also be able to vibe with I Breathe.

On the lyrics and message, EGGER shares, “The recurring line ‘I breathe’ becomes an anchor point, a mantra, a state of mindful awareness. The lyrics reflect the passing of thoughts and moments, the fragile balance between irritation and serenity. The passage ‘Life – no goal, just direction’ lends the track a philosophical depth. The ending – a cycle of gaze, loss, smile and new beginning – rounds off the piece emotionally.”

We deeply connect with the conscious energy that EGGER creates with, and the track was poignantly released on tonight’s full moon. We have added I Breathe to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of EGGER, including Strange Behaviour, and The People.

Drawing us in with an intricate acoustic guitar soundscape and textured drums, tcr! opens On Vancouver Island with raw authenticity and atmospheric vocals with the haunting, situational lyrics, “There’s a coming tide, run and hide, I open the door and out you slide, you left my side… Smiling from the outside with cocky pride… You played with my head, I don’t know where you are…”

We love the tempo switch-up and the repeating mantra, inviting us to rewind and start again, before a brief but meditative, acoustic solo respite before the second verse. Fans of the sensibilities of early Smashing Pumpkins will definitely be able to connect with what tcr! is creating.

We love the lo-fi grunge vibes with poetic prowess and candid prose, particularly the fast-paced flow, which is visceral and assertive, painting a vivid picture of what really went down between the protagonists of the song.

On Vancouver Island also holds a cinematic allure, and we could imagine the song featured in an episode of Euphoria, or a subversive TV show like End of the F***ing World, in a poignant scene that exemplifies the broken hearted narrative of the track.

tcr! describes the track as, “Brutally honest lyrics examine the dynamics of a toxic relationship without pulling punches or mincing words.” The song comes from the band’s 2026 EP Dear Rabbits. As with the rest of the record, it was produced in a lo-fi style with bluesy acoustic guitar and rough-filtered vocals over a loping backbeat.

Needless to say, we absolutely love what tcr! has created, and have added On Vancouver Island to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the project, including Dropped All My Pumpkins, and the entirety of Dear Rabbits.

We previously featured ANACY in 2024 for Frosty, her cinematic and emotional journey through love, loss, and the bittersweet melancholy of winter, so when we heard that the star was back on today’s full moon with Good Luck To Her, we couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in her universe once again, and share our experience.

Good Luck To Her opens with a pulsating bass synth crescendo, expanding into a sublime soundscape with atmospheric vocals and vulnerable prose from ANACY as she charismatically sings, “I moved out of our city, I was hoping you’d miss me, I guess absence never made the heart grow fonder, I’ve been processing pain you’ve caused, haven’t eaten in days…”

We immediately connect with the relatability of the track and how ANACY is truly sharing her soul following the end of a relationship. The rising artist from Cape Town shares a self-realized and cathartic message with Good Luck To Her as she makes peace with her situation.

The build of the track is poetic and emotional, we appreciate the guitars and textured drums. For a song with such rawness, the high octane BPM invites us to move onwards just like ANACY is doing. The assertive nature of the song grows with the hooks as ANACY conveys her independence and understands her worth.

The middle eight is sublime, featuring ethereal layered vocals and the title of the track before a timeless and iconic reprise for the finale. Fans of Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo, and Gracie Abrams will absolutely be able to connect with what ANACY has created, and we can imagine the track being featured in the current season of Euphoria, or a TV show like My Life with the Walter Boys.

In a candid text posted to her Instagram account, ANACY says, “For the past two and a half years, l’ve been re-releasing some of my older music, revisiting it, refining it, and giving it the production it always deserved. Thank you to everyone who’s been patient with me, and to those who gave these songs a second chance. That support hasn’t gone unnoticed. With that being said, the wait is finally over… I’m officially releasing brand new music. I’m incredibly proud of everything that’s coming, but especially Good Luck To Her. I wrote it four years ago, back in 2022, and truthfully, I don’t think I’ll ever feel completely ready to release it. But maybe that means now is the right time.”

Needless to say, we absolutely love the track, produced with Frederick den Hartog, and have added Good Luck To Her to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the exquisite, growing discography of ANACY, including Tattooed To My Heart, and Delight.

We previously featured Aurealis for tapping into a high emotional quotient with the cinematic, narrative-driven single, Shadow of a Doubt, so when we heard that the artist was back with Fire in Rain, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Fire in Rain opens with a glistening and immersive guitar and synthscape, dimensional in design, and intricate in its execution. We appreciate the emotive chord progressions, as well as the airy riser leading to the lyrics, “We’re like fire in rain, wanna burn but can’t maintain the flame, like fire in rain, waiting for the sun to shine again, I can’t believe how things have changed…”

Naturally, the vocals are pristine, in part due to the technology used to create the track. The lyrics are poetic and relatable, once again cinematic and perfect for a range of sync placements, notably a film about two lovers who are caught in a similar juxtaposition – perhaps Anora, or Anyone But You.

There is something rather zeitgeist about the lyrics too, as much as they can be interpreted to be about a couple, they can also serve as a commentary on society as a whole. The instrumental segue before the ethereal finale allows for introspection and invites us to connect with the detailed production.

Speaking on the release, Aurealis confesses, “At its heart, the song is about people – about the fragile but persistent spark we all try to protect as life changes around us. It speaks to longing, resilience, beauty, and the quiet hope that even after loss, something warm and alive can still remain.”

Overall, the idea is that when the sun rises, we can indeed come together and watch these embers glow. We love the metaphorical depth of the track, and have added Fire in Rain to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Aurealis, including Shadow of a Doubt, and Closer.

Establishing the mood with a meditative synthscape featuring astral melodic details and subtle sounds of rolling waves, aligned to the band’s name, Vacant Shores open Palimpsest with atmospheric vocals and the lyrics, “Sticks and stones, they break my bones…”

We are immediately enthralled by the immersive dimensionality of the composition and the poetic prowess of the prose, with a cinematic allure. We could imagine Palimpsest being featured in a pivotal scene of a TV show like Euphoria, or perhaps Nine Perfect Strangers, which has a more psychedelic vibe.

As for the message of the song, Vacant Shores confess, “Palimpsest explores the lingering imprint of childhood voices, memory, and the quiet ways language shapes identity over time. The track reflects on the tension between the desire to escape and the realisation that the past continues to echo beneath the surface.”

We appreciate the hypnotic motifs, and the cohesive tapestry of sound that manifests. with a nod to 90s trip hop, soft rock and alt-pop-electronica. The glitched cosmic synths coupled with the trippy drum riffs are super engaging, and the ebbs and flows of male and female vocals give the track an all-encompassing energy, almost like a conversational art piece.

The sonic switch-ups from hummed ad-libs and panning percussion before a final reprise and haunting final moments leave us yearning for more. For now, we learn that this is a standalone single, but cannot wait to hear more from the Bristol-based trio.

Vacant Shores features Jon Elliott, AJ “Sid” Sidford, and Suzy Alderton. We have added Palimpsest to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the band, including their self-titled EP.

We previously featured Matthew Peter Gough when he teased his album, The Piano Field with the sublime and optimistic new composition, Buttercup Field, so when we found out that Matthew had delivered the album in full, we couldn’t wait to experience The Piano Field in all its glory, and share our review.

The Piano Field opens with the title track of the album, featuring peaceful minor key motifs, expanding with rippling keys into a cinematic and meditative energy. We appreciate the brooding bass notes with the astral melodies, inviting serenity and introspection. Mid-way through the piece, we experience a sonic bridge that evokes drama momentarily before a reprise into the original melody building towards a climax and eventual breakdown.

Next up is Gliding High, which opens with elegant mid-tempo arpeggios, evoking notions of timelessness. Again, the track is peaceful and cinematic – something that fans of Yann Tiersen would be able to connect with. The emergence of pizzicato strings adds dimensionality to the piece, and orchestral nuance that taps into a higher emotional quotient overall.

Cloud Roll opens with a universal sentimentality. It reminds us of the expanse of our planet, and how delicate icy crystals and condensed water move along the skyline. The high notes evoke the wonderment of the universe, whilst the string arrangement further amplifies the sonic experience.

This brings us to Buttercup Field, which holds a grounded energy – delicate like the nature of the flowers themselves. We appreciate the piano layers and the serenity, which expands with strings, both ethereal and plucked, demonstrating the dynamism of what Matthew Peter Gough can offer with his compositions. It is also worth noting that The Piano Field album was inspired by this buttercup field near Matthew’s home.

Thinking It Through invites introspection and the piano performance is one of the most dimensional on the record. It is highly cinematic and would be perfect for a TV show like Downton Abbey. Sitting in the Garden also boasts intricacy and charm – a peaceful vibe that invites us to connect with nature itself.

Next is River Always Flowing, which is a masterclass in “sonic painting” as Matthew poignantly brings to life the mimesis of a river itself – rippling and in flow. The syncopated details only add more depth to his art form as we better understand the imperfections of nature itself. The orchestral add-ons amplify the emotion of the composition, and we appreciate the bass motifs and rallentandos, again, echoing the tempo switches of a river.

Mice Play in the Corn is a playful track with rhythmic descending notes, layered with mid-frequency chords, almost teetering around like a mouse would do in the corn. The melodic curves are sublime and amplified with a folk-esque strings arrangement which furthers the intentional details of the narrative.

Pitter Patter is another example of mimesis with the keys reflecting the falling rain. This naturally one of the most delicate pieces on the record. It also reminds us of how Matthew is known for his lullaby music. Matthew confesses how raindrops trickling down a window pane in his studio inspired the track. We learn that Matthew experimented with echoes and delays for this track, and by bringing them in and out he was able to create movement and atmosphere that we experience.

This leads to Quack Quack which again embraces the more playful elements of a duck. This could be perfect for children’s cartoon based around a family of ducks. The minor key changes add intrigue and subtle drama to the piece. The build of the track feels like an ascension and boasts a dramatic close with subtle string motifs.

Finally, we experience End Of The Day, which feels like a full circle moment in terms of the meditative energy that the track exudes. A slower tempo than its predecessors, we feel fulfilled, with life, with nature and with the record. It feels like the sonic experience of a sunset and a charming close to a day buzzing with the excitement of what we can experience on our beautiful planet.

The Piano Field felt like a movie, and it is certainly worth experiencing the opus from start to finish. It is available now on streaming platforms, and also on Vinyl via Elastic Stage!

We have previously featured Night Wolf for his collaborative track with Lois Powell, so when we heard that the brilliant rising producer was back with Kickback – a new collaboration with The Fods, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

This version of Kickback opens with brooding strings and ethereal vocalizations, tapping into Night Wolf’s cinematic signature, expanding with textured trip-hop drums with dimensional melodic details. We are invited into an introspective space with the lyrics, “Far away in another world, thousands live and can’t be heard, they wish upon their weeping sound, their screams shake cities to the ground…”

We love the vocal design, and hypnotic yet emotional energy that manifests. As for the message, the song feels like it’s about people who are ignored or unheard. There’s a zeitgeist relatability to the message, about how we struggle in the background whilst the world moves on.

There’s anger and frustration that feels cathartic and delivered with a raw authenticity. Our pain might feel overlooked but there is also an escape through fighting for something better, and eventually rising up from rags to riches.

Wisdom is also imbued in the track and it warns that success and power can come with the cost of losing oneself to the darkness. The concept of the “kickback” seems like both the reward and the consequence. It’s pretty genius songwriting overall.

We could imagine it in a film like Marty Supreme, or a TV show like Severance or Euphoria on HBO which follows someone’s rise to success and the dues that might be paid. We learn that Night Wolf met The Fods via an online chat on XRP Radio and asked to remix the track. He tells us how he was sent the project and rebuilt the song around the vocals and backing vocals.

Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Kickback to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream Night Wolf‘s exquisite, growing discography and the original version of The Fods‘ Kickback.

Establishing the mood with a brooding and dramatic rock soundscape, blue PandA open Bargain For A Little More Light with breathy vocals and a vocalization of the title of the track, intertwined with cerebral instrumentation.

The opus expands with metaphorical depth as blue PandA take us on a thought-provoking journey with compressed vocals ebbing and flowing into clarity. We appreciate the transcendental guitar performances and the cinematic allure that manifests with blue PandA‘s storytelling and delivery.

We previously featured the voice behind the project, Anette Ähdel, when she blended dark-wave and dream-pop textures with introspective storytelling on Undercover, so Bargain For A Little More Light is not too far removed from this universe, although this time, Anette is joined by Peter Näslund.

The Swedish duo share that their intention is to take us on “a musical journey to capture the authentic feeling and sonic essence of every story they tell.” They add, “Working together, we strive to reach the true heartbeat of the song. We don’t just play the music; we let the blue PandA live through it.”

As for the message of the song, Anette and Peter tell us, “Bargain For A Little More Light mirrors the cynicism of modern ambition. The song portrays the protagonist as a merchant of their own soul – someone constantly negotiating, calculating profit, and ignoring the silence behind the noise – a vivid picture of a character who believes they are winning, while becoming increasingly isolated by their own design.”

We love the high concept nature of the prose, and the intentional way that blue PandA are creating. There is no doubt that Bargain For A Little More Light would be a great fit for films like Nightcrawler, There Will Be Blood, the upcoming American Psycho TV series, or Succession and Peaky Blinders.

Sonically, the duo cite Arctic Monkeys and The National as peers, which we can feel come to life, although there is no doubt that blue PandA are on a musical adventure of their own. We have added Bargain For A Little More Light to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the band’s wider discography, including Wandering Soul.
