Today, 20 April, marks the official launch of Project Slingshot’s bold new campaign, End Factory Farming: Don’t Buy It, rolling out across London’s Underground network and citywide billboards. Inspired by the David and Goliath story, the campaign takes aim at what it describes as one of the most powerful, and least scrutinised, industries in the world: industrial-scale factory farming.

With more than 750 ads appearing in 206 Tube stations and over 2,000 placements inside carriages, the campaign is designed to confront millions of commuters with a message the group says has been deliberately obscured. Project Slingshot argues that factory farming hasn’t merely grown over the past half-century, it has come to dominate the global food system, with over 90% of farmed animals now raised in intensive conditions.

At the heart of the campaign is a simple premise: most people are unaware of how their food is produced, and if they did know, they might make different choices. Rather than telling the public what to eat, Project Slingshot says its mission is to “turn the lights on” by exposing practices typically hidden from view.

One of the campaign’s central focuses is the widespread use of CO₂ gas chambers to slaughter pigs in the UK. High-profile supporters including Diane Morgan, Dr Amir Khan, and Jen Brister feature in the ads, each challenging the industry’s claim that such methods are humane. Their shared conclusion – “I don’t buy it” – forms the campaign’s defining call to action.

Co-founder Naomi Hallum describes the issue as “industrial-scale gaslighting,” arguing that the public has been misled about the realities of modern farming. Fellow co-founder Matthew Glover adds that while agribusiness holds significant political and economic power, “the truth is the slingshot” capable of driving change.

Project Slingshot positions itself as a “narrative pressure engine,” drawing inspiration from historic public health campaigns that shifted social norms around tobacco and drink-driving. Its broader goal is ambitious: to make factory farming socially and politically unacceptable, and ultimately to end the practice by 2040.

Backed by a global team of creatives, investigators, and campaigners, the initiative plans to expand beyond the UK, building momentum through sustained, high-visibility “drumbeats” of information.

As the campaign goes live, its message is clear: the system persists not because it works, but because it remains unseen. Project Slingshot’s challenge to the public is equally clear – if you knew the truth, would you still buy it?

The humble date is having an unexpected moment – and at the centre of its revival is Danish challenger brand True Dates. Once relegated to health food shelves or festive platters, dates are being reimagined as a bold, flavour-packed alternative to traditional sweets, offering indulgence without the usual sugar crash.

True Dates has tapped into a growing appetite for “better-for-you” snacks, transforming the naturally sweet fruit into something far more playful. With around 330 kcal per 100g bag, they strike a balance that appeals to health-conscious consumers: satisfying enough to curb cravings, yet far lighter than many conventional confectionery options. It’s this combination of natural sweetness and mindful nutrition that’s helping dates shake off their old-fashioned image.

What sets True Dates apart is its inventive approach to flavour. Instead of relying on the fruit’s caramel-like baseline alone, the brand has built an entire range designed to mimic—and in some cases rival – classic treats. The Caramel Popcorn variety leans into rich, buttery notes, while Pistachio Cream offers a nutty, dessert-like depth. Cinnamon Roll delivers warm, bakery-style comfort, and Cookie Dough recreates the familiar indulgence of sneaking a bite from the mixing bowl.

For those who prefer a sharper edge, the sour range brings a confectionery twist: Sour Apple, Sour Watermelon, and Sour Cola each deliver a tangy kick that contrasts with the natural sweetness of the date itself. Sweet Peach provides a softer, fruit-forward option, while Salty Liquorice—very much a Nordic favourite – adds a bold, savoury-sweet complexity. Creamy Peanut Butter rounds out the lineup with a smooth, satisfying richness.

Beyond flavour, convenience plays a key role. Packaged in resealable bags, True Dates are designed for modern snacking – easy to carry, easy to portion, and ideal for everything from midday slumps to post-dinner cravings. The brand positions them as a “guilt-free” alternative, though the real appeal lies in how little compromise is required: these snacks feel indulgent, not restrictive.

Behind the product is a story rooted in experimentation and sustainability. What began in 2017 as a kitchen-table project among four friends has grown into a broader mission to create snacks that are better for both people and the planet. Each date is crafted near Copenhagen, reflecting a hands-on approach that prioritises quality and innovation.

Yet the appeal of dates goes far beyond modern branding. For thousands of years, dates have held deep cultural and spiritual significance across the Middle East and North Africa, particularly during Ramadan, when they are traditionally eaten to break the fast at sunset. Revered for their natural energy and symbolic nourishment, dates have long been associated with vitality, generosity, and renewal. In many cultures, they are seen not just as food, but as a source of sustenance for both body and spirit – adding an extra layer of meaning to their modern-day revival.

Tucked along Brixton Road, Rhoda is one of those rare places that feels instantly comforting, like you’ve stepped into someone’s home rather than a restaurant. The space is warm and eclectic, filled with character, and the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between lively and relaxed. It invites you to slow down, share food, and really enjoy the experience.

The highlight, without question, is the mixed vegan injera platter, often known traditionally as beyaynetu. It arrives as a generous, colourful spread laid across a large sheet of injera, the soft, slightly tangy fermented flatbread that underpins Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine. Made from teff flour, injera isn’t just bread, it’s your plate, your utensil, and a key part of the flavour experience . Tearing into it and scooping up the various stews feels tactile and communal in a way that few dining styles achieve.

At Rhoda, the platter is a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Vibrant lentil stews, richly spiced chickpea-based shiro, garlicky greens, and slow-cooked vegetables are arranged in little mounds across the injera. Each dish brings something different, earthy, smoky, gently spiced, or deeply savoury. The injera itself soaks up all those flavours, becoming more delicious with every bite. It’s the kind of meal where you lose track of time, happily working your way across the plate.

What makes Rhoda even more special is how naturally vegan the food feels. This isn’t a menu trying to imitate something else, it’s rooted in centuries-old culinary tradition. In Ethiopia and Eritrea, a large proportion of the population follows Orthodox Christianity, which includes regular fasting days where animal products are avoided. As a result, many dishes are traditionally plant-based, with people eating vegan food for a significant portion of the year. That heritage shines through here. The food isn’t “vegan alternatives”, it’s simply authentic cuisine at its best.

There’s also something deeply communal about the whole experience. Sharing a single platter, eating with your hands, and passing bites around the table creates a sense of connection that feels increasingly rare.

Rhoda isn’t just a place to eat, it’s a place to gather, to explore flavour, and to experience a culinary tradition that has been quietly perfecting plant-based cooking for generations.

The right selection of cake can make some remarkable moments in any event. It could imply a theme, reflect personal preferences, or even pay homage to the significance of the celebration. A well-chosen cake provides a lot of joy to the guests and adds sweetness to the special occasion.

Consider the Event Type

Each one of these meetups has its own. If it is a birthday, it can be something fun, and if it is for a wedding, then it can be a little fancy. For anniversary celebrations, classic flavours and subtle decorations work well. The type of event also determines your cake choice. The versatility of Brunetti cakes ensures they fit seamlessly into both formal and casual celebrations.

Assess Guest Preferences

If you are baking a cake for everyone who is coming there, then you should remember that a cake should not be a party pooper. Not all customers may be into chocolate or vice versa if you choose a fruit one. To be able to enjoy the dessert in peace, it is also important to check for allergies, such as nuts or gluten. This will prevent disappointment by bearing in mind the tastes of the group!

Choose the Right Flavor

Flavours coordinate the cake experience. Chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet are still the most beloved. Lemon, coffee, or carrot can offer distinct enjoyment for exciting taste buds. Choosing a flavour that most guests will enjoy means everyone stays indoors.

Allot Cake Style to the Theme

The decorations and colours should always match the theme of the event. For formal occasions, understated sophistication works well, while kids’ gatherings call for vibrant hues and whimsical shapes. Visual harmony arises when the cake’s appearance aligns with the occasion’s mood.

Select an Appropriate Size

Calculating the amount of cake you need depends on the number of guests present. A single-layer cake will suffice for smaller gatherings, while a multi-tier cake is best for bigger events. Your celebration will be thrown out of balance if you have too much or not enough cake.

Focus on Presentation

Does the design of a cake matter equally as much as the taste? Some events call for plain styling, but others are unforgettable because of complex styles. Adding garnishes like fresh flowers or edible glitter really helps on that front; they may make food more attractive, but they also add just a dash of charm to the presentation.

Account for Dietary Needs

Apart from common allergies, every guest might have some special dietary restrictions. Having gluten-free, vegan, or low-sugar cakes helps everyone get in on the celebrations! Consideration for dietary restrictions shows that you care about all guests.

Consult a Skilled Baker

Practical Implementation of the Framework through Excellent Consulting Writing for the cake to be eaten very well. The bakers make suggestions based on their experience and creativity. Consultants assist in designing the cake with the flavour that suits the event, along with making it a delicious centrepiece.

Balance Budget and Quality

Great ingredients ensure a great dish, but it also comes down to budget. A balance between flavour and appearance without compromising any of them is made by comparing options thoroughly. Focus on quality with a nice price point, and everyone will be happy and well satisfied.

Plan for Customization

Though any cake is special in its own right, a personal touch can give it that extra layer. You can personalise the cupcake by adding names, leaving small notes, or tailoring it to a specific theme. This procedure requires some preparation on the baker’s part, and hence ordering should be done ahead of time to make sure all your customisation needs are fulfilled.

Consider Season and Weather

It makes the cake taste fresh and appealing. Milder flavours and fewer problems with melting in warmer months. Colder seasons beg for heartier flavours and thicker textures, so either way, you will be happy with this cake no matter the climate.

Gather Feedback After the Event

Gather feedback from the guests to enhance future celebrations. You can remove all of the best, but you must keep some of the lower. Taking note of what flavors and designs were appreciated and help tailor the next round. Feedback is important, and handling it will always ensure room for improvement on all special events.

Conclusion

Choosing the ideal cake requires consideration, creativity, and precision. Since everyone can enjoy a delicious dessert, take into account its flavour, appearance, size, and dietary requirements. When you plan carefully and have the perfect cake, every party becomes memorable and comes alive!

In the heart of London’s Spitalfields, Unity Diner has carved out a really special place in the city’s food scene by reviving and redefining the classic British Sunday carvery. This hearty tradition, usually associated with roast meats, Yorkshire puddings, and rich gravy, is given a plant-based makeover that stays true to the spirit of Sunday family dining while supporting a deeper purpose: helping animals and promoting compassionate eating.

Unity Diner itself is a 100 percent vegan, non-profit restaurant and bar. Open from Tuesday to Saturday for its regular menu and exclusively on Sundays for the carvery, it has built a reputation for delivering bold, flavour-rich food that blends comfort and ethical intention. All of the diner’s potential profits go to Surge Sanctuary, an animal rescue organisation that provides lifelong care for farm animals saved from slaughter.

A Sunday Tradition Reimagined

Sunday roasts and carveries have long been a cornerstone of British food culture. Traditionally, families gather around the table to enjoy slow-cooked meats, seasonal vegetables, roast potatoes, and plenty of gravy. Unity Diner flips this on its head with a 100 percent vegan carvery that keeps all the beloved textures and flavours but replaces animal products with plant-based alternatives and inventive vegetable-centric options.

Diners choosing the Sunday carvery can pick from a selection of mains that span both traditional roast “flavours” and creative vegan substitutes. Typical choices include:

• Braised Lamb with herby gravy, reimagined with plant-based ingredients that capture the deep savoury taste of the original
• Roast “Chicken” that delivers the familiar seasoning and texture without animal meat
• Roast “Turkey” slow-roasted and braised in sage-rich gravy
• Cashew & Sage Nut Roast, a crunchy and aromatic alternative
• Root Vegetable Wellington, filled with seasonal roots and encased in golden pastry

These mains are paired with lovingly prepared sides reminiscent of the old-school roast dinner, including roasted maple-glazed carrots, garlic miso savoy cabbage and garden peas, bacon-style sprouts with plant-based bacon and parmesan, creamy cauliflower and truffle cheese, herb-crusted roast potatoes, and even crispy rice paper “crackling.” There’s a selection of classic sauces to finish the feast, like cranberry, minty sauce, horseradish cream, and English mustard. It’s a buffet-style experience where guests help themselves to as many sides as they like.

At around £21-25 per person (with children at a reduced rate), this carvery offers very good value for a feast that feels both traditional and novel. Diners also get a Yorkshire pudding and can follow the meal with a sticky toffee pudding dessert that keeps up the indulgent British theme.

More Than Just Dinner

Unity Diner’s approach isn’t only about delicious food. It’s about community, ethics, and impact. Every pound of profit from the diner supports Surge Sanctuary, which rescues farm animals – sheep, goats, pigs, and others – and gives them a safe, animal-centred life. This flips the script on the classic roast dinner: rather than animals being the centerpiece of the meal, diners are actively helping to protect and nurture them.

This charitable mission taps into a broader cultural shift in the UK around food, sustainability, and compassion. Traditional Sunday carveries are part of British identity, but they also historically carry a heavy environmental and ethical footprint. Unity Diner keeps the communal, celebratory feel of a Sunday roast while supporting plant-based eating that’s lighter on the planet and kinder to animals.

It’s a dining concept that welcomes everyone. Many reviewers say even non-vegans find the food satisfying and worth trying, especially when the sides and mains are prepared with as much care and creativity as at Unity Diner.

Why It Works

The Sunday Carvery at Unity Diner works on several levels: it celebrates a beloved British tradition, offers a memorable and tasty experience, and channels the joy of sharing a meal into real, positive impact. Rather than choosing between culture and conscience, guests enjoy both.

The carvery makes compassionate eating feel familiar and exciting rather than didactic. And by tying profits directly to animal welfare, Unity Diner turns a weekly ritual into something that supports a larger cause – proving that the Sunday roast can evolve without losing its soul.

Amsterdam has made history by becoming the first city in the world to ban meat advertising in public spaces, and this decision marks a powerful and hopeful shift toward a more compassionate, sustainable future. By removing meat adverts from billboards, public transport, and other city owned spaces, Amsterdam is sending a clear message that the way we produce and consume food is not neutral, and that public space should not be used to promote practices that harm animals, the climate, and human health.

Advertising is not just background noise. It shapes habits, normalises behaviours, and reinforces cultural ideas about what is desirable and necessary. For decades, meat and dairy advertising has framed animal products as essential, celebratory, and unquestionable parts of daily life. By banning these ads, Amsterdam is challenging that narrative. It creates room for people to reflect, to question long held assumptions, and to imagine food systems that do not rely on the routine exploitation and killing of animals.

This policy is progressive because it aligns public messaging with scientific and ethical realities. Industrial meat and dairy production is one of the largest contributors to climate change, deforestation, water pollution, and biodiversity loss. At the same time, it is responsible for the suffering and slaughter of billions of animals every year, most of whom live short lives in intensive, confined conditions. Continuing to promote these products in public spaces while claiming to care about sustainability and animal welfare is deeply contradictory. Amsterdam’s ban acknowledges that contradiction and chooses to act.

The move is also positive for a vegan future because it helps rebalance a heavily skewed system. Plant based foods do not have the marketing budgets or political backing of the meat and dairy industries, yet they offer a clear path toward reducing environmental damage and ending large scale animal suffering. When cities stop amplifying meat advertising, they help level the playing field and allow plant based choices to be seen as normal, accessible, and socially supported.

This decision becomes even more significant when viewed alongside the broader issue of government subsidies. Across the world, most governments heavily subsidise meat and dairy production. Public money is used to support livestock farming, animal feed crops, and processing industries, often on a massive scale. These subsidies artificially lower the price of animal products and shield the industry from the true environmental and ethical costs of its practices.

This system is deeply wrong. Taxpayers are effectively forced to fund industries that drive climate breakdown, destroy ecosystems, and rely on routine animal cruelty. At the same time, plant based agriculture and sustainable food systems receive only a fraction of this support, despite offering solutions to many of the crises we face. It is a moral failure to use public funds to maintain a system that causes such widespread harm when better alternatives already exist.

Calling this situation unethical is not extreme, it is honest. Subsidising meat and dairy means subsidising suffering, pollution, and future instability. It means prioritising corporate interests over animal lives, environmental protection, and public health. Governments often justify these subsidies as necessary for food security or tradition, but these arguments fall apart when examined closely. Plant based food systems can feed more people using fewer resources, with far less damage and far greater ethical integrity.

Amsterdam’s ban on meat advertising does not solve everything, but it is a vital cultural and political signal. It shows that governments can choose to stop promoting harmful industries and start aligning public policy with compassion and reality. It points toward a future where public spaces reflect shared values of care, responsibility, and respect for life.

The proposal was jointly tabled by GroenLinks (Green/Left) and the Partij voor de Dieren (Party for the Animals), and was approved by 27 of the 45 seats on Amsterdam’s municipal council.

Amsterdam joins other Dutch municipalities such as Utrecht and Zwolle in banning meat and fossil fuel advertising, which voted to ban advertising from buses, shelters, and all screens visible in public, because of the impact on health and the climate in 2023.

Additionally, other Dutch cities, including The Hague, Delft and Nijmegen, have already introduced similar advertising bans, but Amsterdam is the first capital city to enact a ban on meat adverts.

For animals, this matters profoundly. Every step away from normalising meat consumption is a step toward fewer animals being bred, confined, and killed for profit. For the planet, it means acknowledging that real climate action requires changing what we eat and how we produce food. For society, it opens the door to a food culture rooted in empathy rather than exploitation.

Amsterdam has drawn a line and said enough. In doing so, it offers a glimpse of a future where vegan values are not marginal, but recognised as essential to a just and liveable world.

In a city saturated with plant based hype, Holy Carrot Portobello stands apart not by shouting the loudest, but by quietly delivering one of the most thoughtful, delicious, and nutritionally intelligent vegan dining experiences in the world. This is not just a great vegan restaurant. It is a great restaurant, full stop.

What immediately sets Holy Carrot apart is its Evening Experience Menu, which feels more like a carefully composed symphony than a sequence of dishes. At a price point that is refreshingly fair for London, especially when compared to overhyped heavyweights like Gauthier Soho, the value is undeniable. Where some tasting menus lean into theatrical minimalism at the expense of satisfaction, Holy Carrot manages generosity, balance, and depth. You leave nourished, not just impressed.

The Koji Flatbread alone could justify the visit. Warm, pillowy, and deeply savoury, it arrives brushed with olive oil and Maldon salt, carrying the unmistakable umami richness of fermentation. It is paired with smoked mushroom chilli ragu, smoked cashew cream, and a hazelnut salsa macha that brings heat, fat, and crunch into perfect alignment. This is comfort food elevated through technique, not ego.

Dish after dish showcases an obsessive understanding of flavour and nutrition. Beetroot ezmé with chilli, blueberry, pine nuts, and crema hits sweet, acidic, and earthy notes while delivering a micronutrient dense punch of antioxidants and minerals. Coal roasted leeks with aji corn and almond romesco are smoky and indulgent, yet packed with fibre, potassium, and healthy fats. Even the oyster mushroom tostada, layered with roasted koji mole, feels engineered for both pleasure and nourishment.

This is where Holy Carrot truly excels. The macro balance is impressive, with ample plant protein from nuts, legumes, and fermentation, but it is the micronutrient diversity that quietly steals the show. Fermented elements boost gut health and mineral absorption. Live fire cooking enhances flavour without masking the integrity of the vegetables. Seasonal produce means vitamin density is high and nothing feels tired or decorative.

Compared to places like Gauthier Soho, which often feel trapped in a legacy fine dining mindset, Holy Carrot is alive, modern, and confident. There is no need to mimic meat or lean on nostalgic French structures. Vegetables are the protagonists here, celebrated from root to leaf, and treated with genuine respect.

That respect extends beyond the plate. The staff are warm, knowledgeable, and refreshingly unpretentious. They talk about fermentation, sourcing, and fire with enthusiasm rather than script. You feel welcomed, not managed. It is the kind of service that makes you want to linger, order another cocktail, and trust the kitchen completely.

Behind it all is a compelling story. Founder Irina Linovich’s deep connection to seasonal produce and sustainability blends seamlessly with Chef Daniel Watkins’ mastery of live fire and fermentation. Together they have created something rare, a restaurant where ethics, flavour, design, and nutrition align without compromise.

Holy Carrot is proof that vegan food does not need to be preachy, performative, or prohibitively expensive to be world class. It just needs care, intelligence, and soul. In a global conversation about sustainable dining, Holy Carrot is not following trends. It is setting the standard.

If you’re tired of functional drinks that taste like sugary chemistry experiments, Vitclear is a breath of fresh air. This is the kind of drink that actually tastes good, feels good, and somehow hits that sweet spot between clarity, energy, and calm. It’s like the liquid version of a mindful moment – perfect for a morning stretch, a tough yoga class at Third Space, or even just zoning out to your favourite playlist with Ed Sheeran (yes, they even have a photo of Ed drinking Vitclear on their site!).

Founded in 2023 in the charming riverside town of Henley-on-Thames, Vitclear comes from someone who knows what it means to need both physical and mental endurance – a former firefighter, rower, and rugby player. He teamed up with leading scientists in food, beverage, and pharma to create something that’s more than just another “functional” drink. It’s designed for clarity, focus, and recovery in real life, not just marketing slides.

The magic is partly in the liquid form. Unlike capsules, Vitclear doesn’t sit around waiting to be broken down in your intestines. Studies (Cambridge, PubMed) show that liquids can be absorbed faster, meaning your body actually gets the nutrients quickly. The Physician’s Desk Reference even says 85 to 90 percent of nutrients in liquid supplements are absorbed in under 30 seconds. Bonus: if pills aren’t your thing, this is way easier to take.

Vitclear comes in three dreamy variants, each crafted for a different vibe:

Active Health (Guava & Passion Fruit) is like a tropical hit of energy in a bottle. Bright, fruity, and lightly sweet, it supports your muscles, immunity, and energy metabolism with Vitamin C, D, Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium, and more. It’s the perfect companion for a sweaty spin class or a long day when you need to keep your edge without feeling wired.

Brain Health (Tropical Peach) is all about focus and calm energy. Think of it as your mental reset in a peachy sip. With B vitamins, Magnesium, Zinc, and Copper, plus nootropics like Lion’s Mane, Ginkgo Biloba, Panax Ginseng, L-Theanine, and Ashwagandha, it helps your brain stay sharp, protect against stress, and keep fatigue at bay. And if you want to dive into the research behind these ingredients, there’s plenty to explore on PubMed and PMC (like this Lion’s Mane study or Ashwagandha research).

Gut Health (Mango & Lychee) is smooth, comforting, and quietly restorative. High in fibre and enriched with Biotin, Vitamin D, Zinc, prebiotic inulin, probiotics, aloe vera, and ginger, it’s designed to keep digestion flowing, support your gut lining, and even boost your mood. It’s the kind of drink that feels nurturing, like a mini wellness ritual in a bottle.

Everything is low sugar, vegan, and proudly made in the UK, hitting the sweet spot of mindful indulgence and serious science. And it’s not just hype – the drink is trusted by firefighters, Team GB athletes, Olympic champions, and other high achievers, people who really know what performance and recovery mean.

Vitclear doesn’t just fuel the body, it feels like a small spiritual upgrade. A mindful sip before a yoga flow, a mental reset between Zoom calls, or even just whilst journaling – this is the drink that fits the rhythm of a life lived fully.

For anyone who wants functional nutrition that tastes good, feels effortless, and actually supports mind and body, Vitclear is a rare gem in the world of wellness drinks. They even have their own merch, so if 27 vitamins and minerals is not enough, you can also grab baseball cap!

There is something revealing about the way power talks about health. When national leaders invoke strength, vitality, and tradition, the foods they elevate often mirror the same myths, dominance, control, nostalgia, and a deep resistance to change. The recent resurgence of messaging framed as “Make America Healthy Again,” with its emphasis on whole milk, beef, and animal based dietary ideals, is a case study in how cultural identity can override scientific reality, ethical reflection, and planetary limits.

At first glance, promoting “real food” sounds grounded and commonsense. Scratch the surface, however, and the story begins to unravel. Decades of nutritional science consistently show that diets high in saturated fat and animal protein are associated with increased risks of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, and inflammatory conditions. Meanwhile, populations that consume predominantly whole foods plant based diets show dramatically lower rates of these same chronic illnesses, often without the need for aggressive medical intervention.

This is not fringe science. It is supported by epidemiology, clinical trials, and real world population data. Yet animal products continue to be framed as nutritional cornerstones, not because the evidence demands it, but because they are culturally symbolic. Beef represents rugged individualism. Milk represents purity and wholesomeness. These oppressive and racist narratives persist even as the physiological data contradict them.

Beyond health outcomes lies a deeper ethical issue that is rarely acknowledged in official discourse. The production of beef and dairy is inherently violent. It depends on the confinement, exploitation, and slaughter of sentient beings at an industrial scale. Violence does not require intent or malice, it requires harm. When a system normalizes suffering as an input, it becomes morally invisible. Calling this out is uncomfortable, but avoiding the truth does not make it disappear.

This violence also extends outward, into ecosystems and communities. Animal agriculture is one of the leading drivers of deforestation, biodiversity loss, and greenhouse gas emissions. It is among the largest consumers of freshwater globally, diverting rivers, draining aquifers, and contaminating water supplies through manure runoff and chemical use. Promoting beef and dairy as health foods while ignoring their environmental footprint is not just scientifically negligent, it is ecologically reckless.

A whole foods plant based diet offers a radically different vision. It is associated with lower disease risk, improved metabolic health, and greater longevity. It requires far fewer resources to sustain, dramatically reducing water use, land degradation, and emissions. It aligns human health with planetary health rather than pitting them against each other. This alignment matters, because environmental collapse is not a separate issue from public health, it is its downstream consequence.

There is also a quieter, more profound implication. Diets are not just nutritional frameworks, they are moral training grounds. What we normalize on our plates shapes how we relate to power, to suffering, and to difference. A food system that depends on domination and extraction reinforces the idea that well being is something we take from others. A plant based system, by contrast, models interdependence and restraint. It suggests that thriving does not require another’s harm.

World peace may sound like an ambitious claim to attach to dietary change, but peace is built from patterns, not proclamations. Reducing competition over water, land, and food resources lowers the pressure points that drive conflict. Choosing food systems that minimize harm fosters empathy rather than numbness. These shifts do not solve everything, but they move society in a direction where cooperation becomes easier than coercion.

If the goal is truly to make America healthy again, then the focus must move beyond nostalgic food myths and toward evidence, ethics, and sustainability. That means centering whole foods plant based nutrition, investing in access to fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains, and telling a new story about strength, one rooted in care rather than conquest.

Health is not found in clinging to the past. It is found in the courage to evolve. What remains largely unspoken is the role of money and institutional capture in shaping these narratives. The White House does not operate in a vacuum, and agricultural and pharmaceutical interests exert enormous influence through lobbying, campaign financing, and revolving door appointments. Industrial animal agriculture benefits directly from dietary guidance that centers meat and dairy, while pharmaceutical companies profit from managing the chronic diseases those diets help produce.

This alignment of incentives creates a feedback loop where prevention is sidelined in favor of treatment, and systemic harm is normalized as economic necessity. Critics have long noted that when governments prioritize enforcement, extraction, and profit over care, whether in food systems, healthcare, or immigration policy, the result is not public well being but expanded markets for control and containment. In this light, MAHA risks functioning less as a health initiative and more as a branding exercise that protects powerful industries while externalizing the human, environmental, and ethical costs to the public.

A major dairy supplier has revealed that it had to throw away large quantities of milk over the Christmas period due to oversupply. Freshways, a leading wholesaler, informed its farmers that it had been forced to “physically dispose of milk,” and warned that the situation is likely to continue into the new year.

Freshways Managing Director Bali Nijjar said, “Milk supplies have reached record levels” and the company is prepared for “worst-case scenarios.”

The revelation has drawn sharp criticism from animal rights advocates. Libby Peppiatt, CEO of The Vegan Society, described the situation as a “scandal that shows just how wasteful and cruel our food system has become.” She explained that cows are pushed to produce milk in volumes far beyond what nature intended, only for much of it to be discarded.

Data from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board shows milk production has risen by 6% compared to last year. Oversupply has already forced Freshways and major dairy brands like ARLA and Mueller to cut prices, with the farmgate price – the amount farmers receive for milk – falling to around 35p per litre, more than 10p lower than last year.

Ms Peppiatt argues that the solution is not to keep cutting prices while continuing unsustainable production. “The answer is to stop drinking cows’ milk. It is produced by cows for their calves, not humans,” she said. Plant-based alternatives, she notes, offer not only ethical advantages but also health benefits, providing calcium, vitamins, and protein, with lower saturated fat, cholesterol, and sugar levels.

The environmental impact is also stark. Plant-based milks generally produce less than a third of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with dairy, highlighting another dimension of the industry’s waste.

Beyond environmental concerns, the issue raises profound questions about our relationship with animals. “This is a scandalous waste in so many ways,” Ms Peppiatt said, “but fundamentally it reflects a deeper disregard for the consciousness and lives of farmed animals.” She described how cows are forcibly impregnated, separated from their calves, and ultimately slaughtered when their productivity declines – all while their milk is poured down the drain.

The incident, she emphasizes, should serve as a wake-up call for consumers. Ethical, healthier, and environmentally sustainable alternatives exist. Choosing plant-based milks is one tangible way to reduce cruelty, lower our carbon footprint, and recognize the intrinsic value of animal lives.

As awareness of animal consciousness grows, so too does the responsibility to make choices that align with compassion and sustainability. Milk waste is more than an economic problem – it is a reminder of the hidden costs of a system built on exploitation.

In the dairy industry, the reality for cows is harsh. Cows are repeatedly impregnated to keep producing milk, and their calves are taken from them within hours of birth. Male calves are often sold for veal or raised in cramped conditions before slaughter, while females are trapped in the same cycle of forced pregnancies and milking. As their bodies wear down from years of constant production, they are considered “spent” and sent to slaughterhouses, their lives ending not in comfort but in industrial processing lines. Every drop of milk wasted is a reminder that these sentient beings are treated as commodities, their consciousness and suffering ignored for profit.
