introducing mon shu girl: karl lagerfeld’s anime creation for shu uemura
Published August 31, 2012In just over ten days time, I will be in Paris for the launch of Karl Lagerfeld’s exclusive collaboration with shu uemura. In the same vein as Karl Lagerfeld for Diet Coke, the foundations of the shu uemura partnership are based on true authenticity. Not only has Karl been using Shu Uemura products (“they have the best colours”) to sketch (see below) for the last two decades, the designer was friends with the late makeup expert for 20 years.
Here is the teaser video for the new line, which introduces “Mon Shu Girl” – the chic anime character blending “Japanese pop with European chic”. The collection launches exclusively at Selfridges from November. Preview the collection under the cut.

minnie mouse: la nouvelle fashion icon for barneys dressed by lanvin
Published August 29, 2012Minnie Mouse is fast overtaking Choupette as the GLOBAL fashion animal muse. Just over a week ago it was announced that Disney had commissioned designers from Richard Nicoll to Giles Deacon (below) and Terry de Havilland to create one-off garments inspired by her unique style for London Fashion Week.
And it was literally just announced that over Christmas, Barneys and Disney will be collaborating on the store’s holiday campaign, “Electric Holiday.” When unveiled to the public on November 14, Barneys’ Madison Avenue flagship will feature a three-dimensional electric light show and a moving art short film in the window displays that will turn Disney’s favorite heroes into runway supermodels and fashion regulars into Disney types.
The short film centers around Minnie Mouse’s fantasy to be at the Paris shows (well, she will already be in London I guess). There she comes across key Disney characters — Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Daisy Duck, Cruella de Vil, Princess Tiana and Snow White — all decked out in unique designer clothes as they make their way down the runway.
Mickey will be dressed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga, Minnie by Alber Elbaz for Lanvin (see below), Goofy by Olivier Rousteing for Balmain, Daisy by Dolce & Gabbana, Cruella by Rick Owens, Princess Tiana by Proenza Schouler and Snow White by Peter Copping for Nina Ricci.
