Drawing us in with a rhythmic, pulsating guitar, punctuated with a fierce kick drum, Ecotones open Second Act with the observational prose, “Hey man you look so lost and tired, it seems like the things don’t go your way…”
We are immediately captivated by the direction that the song is going and the timeless nature of the soundscape. The chords are laced with emotional depth and this is mirrored by the vocal performance. The build of the track is sublime, anthemic, and stadium-ready.
As for the philosophical message of the song, we are moved by the concept and feel empowered and relate strongly to the intention of what Ecotones are sharing. In a way, the track has a highly cinematic allure, perfect for a sync placement in a coming-of-age or come-up film like Marty Supreme.
In essence, Second Act explores notions of loss, breakups and perseverance. We learn that the poetic prowess is a reflection of the band’s own struggles and victories. Despite challenges during recording, Ecotones came out stronger and created a hugely powerful song that we are really grateful for.
They confess, “This release is very important to us because the lyrics mean so much. We wrote this one under weird conditions such as loss, breakups, the band was on the verge of collapsing , we changed multiple studios and producers and nothing worked…. but here we are!” The Greek band adds, “We believe that this single is raw and all the lyrics are based on real life stuff that happened to us as a band and being real stands out.”

The instrumental performances are nothing short of masterful and we appreciate the grunge elements and the timeless alternative rock vibes with minor key moments that really tap into our heart centre. Fans of Bush would absolutely love this. The middle segment switch-up of the track is a truly emotive moment, resonating like a mantra before an anthemic reprise, transcendental guitar solo leading to an extended outro leaving us yearning for more.
On their recent successes and upcoming plans, Ecotones proudly state, “The past months were intense. We had our debut TV appearance on the national broadcast ERT3. We played shows in Athens and Thessaloniki. Right now we are planning for festival appearances.”
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Second Act to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Ecotones‘ wider discography, including Feel Like This, Never Alone, and Brat.
