Establishing the mood with a dimensional synthscape featuring astral tones and ethereal vocalizations, Q2mix opens Step Up The Steam with a cerebral energy, tapping into notions of 80s synthpop with dark-wave futurist nuances and metaphorical prose.
We appreciate the journey that we are being taken on and there is no doubt that Step Up The Steam manifests with cinematic allure and dynamism. The track would be perfect for a multitude of sync placements, notably a film like Luc Besson‘s Lucy, or Limitless which was directed by Neil Burger.
The cohesive tapestry of sound is sublime, and the levels of intricacy are awe-inspiring. We love the subtle bass details and the ebbs and flows of the track. The syncopated percussion moments add a human touch to the holistically designed sonic experience.
The overarching retro-futurism unveils a meditative middle eight with a high emotional quotient, allowing the message of the song to really come through. The lyricism is inspiring, inviting us to “step up”, and embrace our inner spark. This comes at a time when society needs it the most, and in that sense, Q2mix‘s artistry feels highly reflective of the zeitgeist.

It’s almost like a series of ASMR mantras that come to life to inspire use to be the best and most optimal versions of ourselves. Speaking on his conscious artistry, Q2mix confesses, “After many years living my passion for music, I decided to finally share the music that has been echoing through the universe within.”
The artist, also known as Jack Hesselholt from Copenhagen in Denmark adds, “With years of dedication and an unyielding love for music, I invite you to immerse yourself in the musical universe of Q2mix. My goal is simply to share the vibrant energy and boundless emotions that music brings. Every beat, every drop, and every melody is an invitation to connect with your emotions.”
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Step Up The Steam to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Q2mix, including It’s All Here, Burn For Me, and No Regrets.
