Establishing the mood with an intricate guitar soundscape and textured drums tapping into notions of 90s nostalgia, marcball opens Words with dimensionality and timelessness as he sings, “Looking for the spark, in places I shouldn’t go, searching in the dark, found the will to let it flow, found the determination to know just what I wrote, sometimes we don’t know, where the destiny will end, but we know which way to go…”
We immediately connect with the empowering philosophical depth of the track and the cinematic allure that manifests. We can imagine Words locking in a multitude of sync placements, notably a Hollywood coming-of-age film such as Booksmart or Incoming, or perhaps a TV show like Gen V, or The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Speaking on the release, marcball, who is based in Barcelona, confesses, “Words is a raw anthem about the agonizing yet rewarding process of creation.” We deeply appreciate how he plunges into the depths of his mind, untangling the chaos of inspiration and transforming this mental noise into sharp and compelling verses.

The track exudes authenticity and we are mesmerised by marcball‘s falsetto too. We could imagine experience Words being performed anywhere from a dive bar to a stadium! The layered choruses tap into a high emotional quotient and we are left feeling inspired by the track at a time when we, and a collective, need it the most!
The instrumentation is masterful, creating a cohesive and dynamic tapestry of sound with marcball‘s poetic and philosophical nature front and centre.
With three albums already released and a growing, high-quality discography of 32 self-produced songs, we learn that Words is designed to serve as marcball‘s artistic manifesto: “writing music isn’t easy, but the determination to let the spark flow is what drives this prolific project.”
We love what marcball is creating, and have added Words to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography, including Jynx, Tyai, and The Flaw of the Rest.
