Establishing the mood with an astral guitar melody and poignant, self-reflective prose, The Cadence of Rhyme opens Dalek with the words, “According to Wikipedia, I don’t even exist, not a single mention, it’s like in permanent detention…”
We are immediately captivated by the raw authenticity and vulnerability that The Cadence of Rhyme delivers with poetic prowess. The soundscape expands with a bass guitar and textured percussion with choral vocal harmonies.
The Cadence of Rhyme‘s flow is exquisite and we appreciate the dynamism of the production. As for the message of the track, we deeply connect with what the artist is sharing. It feels real, reflective of the zeitgeist, and like an important social commentary.
The more experimental hooks are sublime, bold and dimensional, in line with the more cerebral concept of “extermination” that manifests. We learn that the production is created with the support of AI, and The Cadence of Rhyme, also known as artist Martin Colclough, confesses, “Every song starts with the truth. I write the lyrics myself, and I use AI to build the musical world around them, but the heart of the track is always human.”
Martin tells us how Dalek is designed to serve as a dark and introspective hip‑hop piece exploring what it feels like to be invisible in a world ruled by algorithms. He says, “It’s a declaration from an artist pushed to the margins, fighting to be seen, refusing to be erased, and letting the music speak where the system stays silent.”
The captivating music video shows a Dalek in a bright studio packed with musical gear. The enhanced robot performs as if it were on a live stage. Disco lights flash and fill the room with energy as the Dalek reacts to the lights whilst a band and dancers move around it. The result is a bold mix of Doctor Who style and a lively musical performance. We could definitely imagine The Cadence of Rhyme bringing this to life on a festival stage.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Dalek to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of The Cadence of Rhyme, including Surprise Me, and Lines of Life.
