Establishing the mood with a dimensional beat with cerebral astral nuances and immersive guitar riffs, Sonny Southon opens I’m In Love with poetic prowess and a self-realized energy as she sings, “I don’t wanna be the one who’s holding you back, I’m ok if you need to be in another place right now, it’s ok if you’re not sure what you need, I’ll understand if you’ve got better things to do right now, you call out my name, and I walk in the flame, I’m banging on walls, caught in the spell, cos I’m in love, I’m in love…”
We deeply connect with the poetic prowess that Sonny Southon shares, as well as her raw authenticity, poetic prowess and the trip-hop vibes of the production. There is no doubt that fans of early Massive Attack and Portishead would be able to vibe with what Sonny Southon is creating, and that the track holds an undeniable cinematic allure.
We could imagine I’m In Love securing a multitude of sync placements, notably a coming-of-age romantic movie like The Idea Of You, or a TV show such as Love Is Blind. It would also be a great fit for a scene at The Bronze in the upcoming reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer as it reminds us of songs by Cibo Matto too.

I’m In Love was recorded entirely at Sonny Southon‘s home studio in Wellington, New Zealand, which only adds to its authenticity. The harmonies and atmospheric vibratos are sublime. Naturally, Sonny Southon took full creative control by writing, producing, and mixing I’m in Love herself – a multitalented artist.
The track even includes a fade out which we do not nearly experience enough in music releases today. The song is also designed to set the stage for Sonny Southon‘s forthcoming album! Needless to say, we are excited to hear more, and have added I’m In Love to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Sonny Southon, including I Am Yours, Tryin to Find Home, and O My Heart.
