Establishing the mood with an immersive, meditative frequency and astral synth arpeggios, expanding with an emotive piano performance, Magdi Aboul-Kheir opens Slow Heat with the title track from the album and a cinematic allure. We are invited to feel at one with the universe, and a peaceful sentiment laced with dimensionality and repeated notions which feel calming.
The synth picks up tempo whilst the piano taps into our heart’s centre with an emotional melody. We can imagine the track serving as the score for the introduction of a Sofia Coppola or Luca Guadagnino film, but when the strings arrangement arrives mid-way through the track, we can also imagine the piece being present in a Darren Aronofsky production. The return of the cosmic synth as the main protagonist of the piece is welcome and intertwines with the strings to create a cohesive tapestry of sound leading us to a crescendo for the finale of the piece with an eventual fade out.
Next up is Pulse Language which kicks off with a more cerebral energy, dramatic bass notes and 80s vibes with panning synths like the start of a Daft Punk album or a Knight Rider movie. Again, the track holds a high emotional quotient and a serene sentiment that is also nocturnal in its design. We connect with the intricacy of the piece and the dynamism of the instrumentation. The opus picks up energy and the build feels sublime and cinematic at the same time.

Lunar / Solar brings to life more percussion and spacey notions. We can almost feel the presence of the ISS, the coldness of the moon and the warmth of the sun at the same time. It is graceful and poetic in its sonic design. The celestial energy is built upon with sonic switch ups that adds drama, intrigue and what feels like a narrative.
This leads us to Nectar, once again cementing the meditative core of the album with drama and cinematic intrigue. The album as a whole is intended to explore “the sound of desire and tenderness”. Nectar certainly manifests with romantic notions. There is poetic grace in its production and the subtleties of the rhythmic percussion add depth to the piece.
Ascending Flow feels euphoric with celestial synth performances and percussion that reflects its predecessor. This reminds us of the cohesiveness of the record as a whole. There is a yearning to this flow, and we are back to feeling connected with the universe. The track would also be perfect for a cosmic yoga flow – the expansion towards an energy of “ascension” feels incredible, just before a meditative conclusion.
This brings us to Inhaling You which holds romantic sentiment with repeated refrains like mantras before a more classical and folk-esque energy comes to life, whilst Below Thoughts taps into darker and more subversive vibes, keeping us enthralled throughout.

Interweave is more cyber in its design with futuristic elements and a whirring bass juxtaposed with classical piano riffs, before One + One = One serves as a more romantic expression. The plucked strings could fit into the score of Bridgerton, whilst the more peaceful sentiments express the wider, romantic theme of the album. At a time of international turmoil, the entirety of Slow Heat feels important and zeitgeist, manifesting healing notions of love at a time that we need it the most.
Finally, we experience Skin Memory, which is the most evocatively titled track on the album and opens with a classical piano performance with a luscious strings arrangement. This feels cinematic and perfect for the score to a film like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The eventual build into an astral synthscape feels sublime and we feel invited to connect with the sentiments of both romantic and universal love.
Magdi Aboul-Kheir is a Germany-based composer and journalist whose musical world is hugely genre-expansive. A pianist by training, which is exemplified on this record, we learn that he composes intuitively.
In 2025, he released the electro album Into the Retroverse, infused with strong 1980s synth aesthetics, alongside Nubes Sonorae (Ambient Cloudscapes), serving as a soothing sonic journey through the skies.
In 2026, he has already released The Mirror of Truth, featuring minimal music for multiple pianos. He composed and released Bold Horizons, the official opening piece for Nexuscon 2026 – a science fiction convention held in Berlin celebrating 60 years of Star Trek.
Needless to say, we are in awe of Magdi Aboul-Kheir‘s work and have added the title track of Slow Heat to our New Music Spotlight playlist and TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream his ever-expanding discography and anticipate future releases!
