Establishing the mood with emotive keys and a dimensional strings arrangement, Richard Green opens Midnight with cinematic allure and intrigue. The more syncopated nature of the delivery creates notions of drama and narrative within the composition. We are taken on a journey that feels timeless yet progressive.
There is no doubt that Midnight would be a perfect fit for a multitude of sync placements, perhaps a scene in a show like Amazon Prime‘s Nine Perfect Strangers, or the Danish drama Borgen. We appreciate the intricacy and intentional subversion that manifests.
As always, Richard Green‘s keys are designed with precision, whilst the emotional quotient of Irene Veneziano on piano and the Archimia strings quartet remains high. The jarring and clandestine tonal shifts keep us enthralled throughout the piece.
Mid-way through the opus we experience this discordance and dissonance on a more frequent level, which further cements the maturity and intentionality of the track. A piano interlude with string hoops of the middle eight serves up further intrigue before a final reprise rooted in the main energy of the composition.
Richard Green confesses, “What I like most [about] this composition is the atmosphere, a kind of ballad a bit sad and a bit dark. I believe, in terms of the atmosphere recreated, it is one of the most beautiful and original of the full EP, A Journey.”

We learn that Midnight was recorded in a professional studio near Piacenza, Italy. Although it was released four years ago, Richard Green is now promoting it as part of his completed neoclassical trilogy.
Speaking on his collaborators, Richard adds, “Grateful to have worked with Irene Veneziano and the Archimia String Quartet on this music trilogy. Both are amazing musicians, especially Irene, who is one of the best classical pianists I’ve ever met. I’m truly grateful to them. If you’re into classical music, you should definitely check her out – her talent is impressive.”
Richard Green, an Italian guitarist and composer based in London since 2012, has built a diverse career spanning experimental, classical, jazz-influenced, and contemporary genres. This has culminated in a creative three-part project: A Journey, The Circle Closes, and First Light, which highlights his versatility and originality.
We have added Midnight to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Richard Green, including the entirety of A Journey.
