Establishing the mood with a cerebral frequency and subtle textures, evolving with a brooding and dramatic synth melody, Valiancy opens Voices with dimensionality and layered instrumentation, including Moog synthesizers, to create a cohesive and dynamic tapestry of sound.
The opus expands with atmospheric vocals and introspective lyrics, “I don’t know where my pain comes from, you like a little bit of sun, why, why do we all fall in love, I don’t know it myself, how can the words come out, come out of my mouth…”
Essentially, the song is an ode to deep confusion and inner pain. Valiancy shares how he feels lost and overwhelmed by thoughts that he cannot control. He longs for warmth, love and meaning, but finds voices in his head that push him towards darkness.
The hook about wishing to be dead is brave and shows how heavy and exhausting these thoughts might feel, but in a way also embrace the idea of connecting with source. At the same time the song compares someone else to light. This serves as hope and something pure and good that Valiancy wishes to manifest. That contrast makes the pain feel sharper, because Valiancy believes that he was never truly loved.

Valiancy confesses, “This song is about fighting the negative self-talk and the voices in our heads. [It’s] a powerful message about mental health and depression. It is also a song about suicide. ” He adds, “The inspirations for this song were Peter Gabriel and James Blake.” There is no doubt that Voices has the potential to lock in a plethora of sync placements, notably an emotive scene in a show like Euphoria on HBO.
We deeply appreciate the authenticity that transmutes with the track and the luscious vocal harmonies that add to the drama and high emotional quotient. It has a cinematic allure, in part to this and the epic use of the Moog synths. The instrumental middle eight and outro are epic.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Voices to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Valiancy, including SHE, and In the Dark.
