Production has officially wrapped on Before I Do, a new LGBTQ romantic comedy written and directed by Gary Jaffe, with a cast stacked with some of the most recognizable rising and established names in queer-forward film and television. The project was first revealed exclusively by Variety, positioning the film as one to watch in the evolving rom-com landscape.
Set against the idyllic backdrop of a lakeside weekend, Before I Do centers on a bachelor party that quickly spirals into emotional chaos. According to the official synopsis, the story unfolds when long-buried romantic feelings resurface between the groom and his best man, pulling the entire wedding party into a messy and heartfelt pre-wedding reckoning. The ensemble of college best friends and a best man who is “not-so-straight” find themselves confronting unresolved desires, shifting identities, and the uncomfortable truth that love does not always follow the timeline people expect.
The film stars Cole Doman, Michael Hsu Rosen and Nico Greetham in leading roles. Doman, whose recent credits include The Mastermind and Sundance favorite Mutt, has quickly become known for nuanced performances in character-driven indie films. Rosen brings his sharp comedic instincts and emotional range from series such as Glamorous and The Sex Lives of College Girls. Greetham, familiar to audiences from American Horror Story and Love, Victor, continues his run of queer-inclusive storytelling with a role that promises both humour and vulnerability.

Rounding out the ensemble are Robin de Jesús, a Tony-nominated performer celebrated for his work in Tick, Tick…Boom!and Black Rabbit, and Jared Reinfeldt, whose recent appearances include Feud: Capote vs. The Swans and Gossip Girl. Together, the cast reflects a deliberate blend of Broadway pedigree, prestige television, and indie film credibility.
Behind the camera, Jaffe brings a strong background in both film and theater. Originally from Austin, Texas and now based in Brooklyn, Jaffe has steadily built a reputation as a writer-director with a sharp eye for intimate queer storytelling. He was a 2020 Outfest Screenwriting Lab Fellow for his feature screenplay Our Last Summer, which went on to be selected for Film Independent FastTrack, Gotham Week, and the Inside Out Film Finance Forum. His short films, including Sunset, Next Level Shit, and Last Summer With Uncle Ira, have screened and won awards at major festivals such as Palm Springs International ShortFest, Rhode Island International Film Festival, and Outfest Los Angeles.
Jaffe is also attached to the upcoming film Music of Changes, which explores the life and legacy of queer experimental composer John Cage, signaling a continued commitment to telling LGBTQ stories across genres and generations.
Before I Do is produced by Thomas Wallis of Two Canz Films and Emily McCann Lesser of Monarch Kaleidoscope, the production banner behind acclaimed titles like Fantasy Life and Farewell Amor. The executive producing team includes Joe Pirro, whose credits include The Wedding Banquet and We Grown Now, alongside Henry Russell Bergstein, who also served as casting director, as well as Andrew Tobias, Alex Bilbao, and Frank Glaser.
The film was shot on location in the Berkshires region of Massachusetts, with principal photography completed in Otis. The scenic setting plays a key role in the story, contrasting the serenity of a lakeside retreat with the emotional upheaval brewing beneath the surface.
While distribution details and a release timeline have not yet been announced, Before I Do arrives at a moment when audiences are increasingly hungry for LGBTQ romantic comedies that go beyond coming-out narratives. With its ensemble-driven approach, focus on adult friendships, and blend of chaos and comedy, the film positions itself as a modern update to the wedding rom-com, filtered through a distinctly queer lens.
As post-production moves forward, Before I Do is shaping up to be a smart, heartfelt addition to the genre, one that embraces love in all its complicated, inconvenient, and unexpectedly joyful forms.
