Last year, we featured a slew of releases from the visionary and intentional Ken Woods and The Old Blue Gang, so naturally, we were extremely curious and excited to experience their first release of 2026, titled: Oh Denise.
The track opens with a cerebral and syncopated energy tapping into a divergent rock’n’roll meets blues vibe. Ken’s gruff vocals exude subversion as he takes us on another poetic journey, but this time with the human experience in mind.
In essence, Oh Denise is about desire, restlessness and the pull of a seductive woman. It is not a complicated tale, but the track feels high octane and almost liquored up! The image of the bar in the artwork also cements this creative choice.
It is a fast and cheeky blues tune that leans into notions of flirtation and bravado. It is also laced with the kind of romantic trouble, per se, that has fuelled this genre of song since the history of time. Sonically, it is rooted in Texas blues and swing, but also has a cinematic allure – definitely movie or TV soundtrack ready – we could imagine it in an episode of Westworld, the new Interview with the Vampire series, or True Blood.

A steady shuffle groove from Joe Hoskin and Steve Roberts makes the track super danceable, and lyrically, it is nice to hear something lighter hearted from Ken Woods following his more serious releases from the Silent Spike album era.
Woods is certainly a master of his craft, as he pulls from blues, rock, country and jazz. His art is shaped by years of study and listening, and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s influence is clear, but Ken is truly his own man! A talented one at that.
We have added Oh Denise to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the growing discography of Ken Woods and The Old Blue Gang, and anticipate future release this year!
