The opus expands with charm and intrigue as Nick Boeder takes us on a personal journey with universally relatable themes. In essence, Your Shadowed Doubts taps into notions of separation and self-reflection.
It unfolds in solitude and distance and there appears to be sentiments of blame and regret on both sides. Through the narrative, we learn that the missed signs stay in the background, unspoken. Whilst communication and connection break down, and fear drives decisions, the relationship slowly fades through misunderstanding and hesitation.
Awareness seems to arrive only after the damage is done. The song also explores spiritual awakening and acceptance. There is catharsis and self-realization throughout all of this. Each turning point seems to bring a lesson learned. Faith shows up as a guiding presence, and we are reminded that life is temporary, and meaning is found through surrender and trusting the universe.
We deeply connect with the poetic prowess and philosophical depth that manifests with the song. We also connect with the sublime vocal harmonies that add dimensionality, but also bring to life the sentiment of the song on a stronger level.
Speaking on his creative process, Nick confesses, “Unlike my other songs, I recorded Your Shadowed Doubts without playing my guitar simultaneously. This process took me outside my comfort zone, as my guitar is truly my safety net when singing! The drums are excellent and the electric guitar and bass are awesome on this track. The female vocals were added after the track was completed and mastered. I listened to the song for a few months and realized well after the fact that the track needed my wonderful female vocalist on it. I believe her addition to the song took it to the next level of cool.”
We learn that Your Shadowed Doubts is shaped by a fusion of folk influences including Bob Dylan, Nico Stai, and Nick Drake, which we can feel come through with the song’s design and storytelling, although there is no doubt that Nick Boeder is creating a sonic universe unto his own.
Recorded at the renowned Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado, the track was produced and arranged by Chris Beeble, who also contributed guitar and bass. Shane Zweygardt provides his skill on drums, while Sarah Joelle‘s harmonies manifest with depth and atmosphere.
