Establishing the mood with a sublime and emotive Spanish guitar performance, Martin Lloyd Howard opens Selene with grace and instrumental excellence. The cinematic allure that manifests feels perfect for the score of a Pedro Almodóvar film.
We appreciate the nuanced expression of how Martin Lloyd Howard connects with the strings. There is a raw authenticity that transmutes, and we feel the passion that he feels as he plays every note.
There is a timelessness to his art form, but also a peaceful uniqueness that comes to life. It is meditative at its core, reminding us of connection with ourselves and source. The accompanying artwork of the full moon in a purple sky over the hills adds to this incredible energy and feels hugely apt as we write this in this very moment under the first full moon of 2026 in the sign of Cancer – a water sign of emotion.
Martin confesses, “It was inspired by a moonscape painted by my wife and is named after Selene, the Ancient Greek goddess of the moon. The music is intended to evoke pale, bright moonlight with clouds scudding across it.”

Martin Lloyd Howard is an English guitarist, originally trained in the classical tradition. He has since expanded into folk, blues, and rock. We learn that his main instrument is a fifty-year-old, hand-built classical guitar.
He is also at home playing electric, steel-string acoustic, and slide guitar, and specialises in original instrumental music, though his work features both solo and ensemble electric and acoustic guitars. Martin has also collaborated with a number of artists. Notably, he has worked with Mark Johnson, leader of the Kent-based band The Midnight River Crew.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Selene to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the exquisite, growing discography of Martin Lloyd Howard, including Wessex Rose, and December Dusk.
