We have been avidly following the rise of Mercy Kelly, having featured two of their recent singles, Speak Too Soon, and Breathe For Her, so naturally, we couldn’t wait to listen to their latest release, Out in The Night, and share our experience!
The song kicks off with a rising frequency and shimmering electric guitar with atmospheric vocals and poetic prowess with the words, “You show your skin, the colours that you hide so well within, ready to draw blood just like they let you off the chain for the first time…”
We always connect with the metaphorical depth that Mercy Kelly manifest with their prose. It is intelligent rock that exudes philosophy and wisdom. Out in the Night is a song about the restless pull of possibility. It taps into that liminal space between fear and freedom, referencing how we can test our limits, break rules and chase the unknown.
The energy of the track is radiant – stadium-friendly and euphoric with a cinematic edge. This is brought to life with the sound, but also importantly with the universally relatable message of the track. The instrumentation is rock perfection. We are enamoured by the jangly guitar energy and the warmth that the song exudes. It’s progressive yet nostalgic.

Arriving on the back of festival appearances at Kendal Calling and Tramlines and racking up more than 400 radio plays, Out in the Night is designed to represent a reinvigorated phase for the band. Fans of The Killers, Sam Fender, and those who love cinematic indie rock with emotional depth will definitely be able to connect with what Mercy Kelly are offering!
Formed in the winter of 2019, Mercy Kelly began as an acoustic songwriting partnership between frontman Jack Marland and guitarist Adam Bridge. Over time, the project has expanded into a full four-piece with Thomas Mullen on bass and Connor Byrne on drums.
As always, we are mesmerised by the band and their unique sound and authentic energy. We have added Out in the Night to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Mercy Kelly, and anticipate future releases!
