Following their moody and introspective comeback single Ache, we wanted to highlight Highroad No. 28‘s second single from their upcoming third album, The Will to Endure., uniquely titled: Thistroubledsoul.
The song kicks off with a siren-esque guitar soundscape, manifesting an almost alarming energy, inviting us to sit up and pay attention. The track elevates the band’s cinematic and emotionally charged sound. It proves that their resurgence is not just a nostalgic return, but a bold and resonant evolution with an intentional message.
Whereby Ache established the band’s renewed connection with introspective melodies and atmospheric instrumentation, Thistroubledsoul plunges even deeper into notions of raw vulnerability.
Frontman Andrew JC, performing all instruments and vintage-tinged vocals, crafts a sonic landscape that is eye-opening as he details a human connection with his muse and how she makes him feel. The vocals are expressive – and feel more like The Smiths than The Cure this time!

The weight of inner conflict and emotional survival are present. The instrumental finale is glistening and adds a sense of optimism to the woeful track. The track’s wider thematic focus on endurance and resilience resonates with anyone who has navigated the turbulence of personal struggles.
Highroad No. 28’s return after more than a decade-long hiatus is brimful with authenticity and creative clarity. The deliberate solo approach by JC not only reconnects with the band’s foundational identity, but also signals a compelling new chapter before their upcoming 2026 live shows.
With The Will to Endure slated for release later this year, Thistroubledsoul confirms that Highroad No. 28 are back to reclaim their place in the scene and push their artistry further. We’ve also added Thistroubledsoul to our New Music Spotlight and TIMELESS playlists, but also our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we await The Will to Endure!
