Establishing the mood with a dimensional guitar soundscape with shimmering astral tones, Andy Smythe opens Emergency with the playful lyrics, “Emergency call 999 and save this heart of mine, emergency call 999, love is on the decline, emergency call 999, we’re running of time…”
We appreciate the timeless energy and the power pop adjacency that the song exudes. The opus expands with prose that feels both relatable and universal. It feels zeitgeist and taps into the concept of love energy as a whole, whilst also being something that can be zoomed in on, on a personal level.
We learn that Emergency is the first single from Andy’s upcoming album Quiet Revolution, due for release in March 2026. The track is designed to blend Neil Young-style storytelling with Beatles-like harmonies in a modern rock meet pop meets country hybrid sound. The writing is smart and philosophical in a lot of way, although of course it could also be a great addition to a movie with similar themes, the wider existential meaning is frankly quite brilliant.
Andy recorded the song in Lewisham, UK, playing guitar, piano, bass, organ, with Paul Challenger on lead guitar. Andy describes the song as quirky English pop/rock, like The Proclaimers meets Chuck Berry.

Emergency follows the critical success of Tears Can Heal (Sept 2024) and Poetry in Exile (March 2024). Andy has released eight albums over 20 years and earned praise from Mike Scott of The Waterboys. He has performed over 1000 shows across the UK, playing folk and acoustic clubs and festivals as a true grassroots independent artist. He writes songs that inspire reflection on humanity and everyday life.
Andy is a multi-instrumentalist with a four-octave English voice reminiscent of Nick Drake. He plays acoustic and electric guitars, bass, piano, organ, and blues harp. He performs with The Andy Smythe Band, featuring violin, electric mandolin, bass, and drums.
Fans will be happy to know that Andy will tour the UK from March to April 2026 to support Quiet Revolution and will play Blackheath Concert Halls on 10 July 2026. In the meantime, we have added Emergency to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Andy Smythe!
