Our obsession with John Goldrust seems to grow with every listen. We recently featured Rainbows & Rivers Meditations One, which was John Goldrust’s groundbreaking instrumental exploration of music’s evolution, so naturally, we were curious to listen to his most recent release, How Like The Goddess.
The track opens with textured drums and a sublime electric guitar performance with an 80s adjacency, John Goldrust opens How Like The Goddess with situational prose as he sings, “I like the way you look, you like the way I play on my guitar, it’s good, but it leads me astray, I couldn’t catch the tide, sand running through my hands, guess we ran out of time, took us to different lands…”
The opus expands with the hook and title of the track and continues with cinematic and vivid storytelling, filled with emotional resonance, as John shares his poetic prowess as an ode to his muse. We appreciate the metaphorical middle eight and the universe that John brings to life with his poignant and high concept lyricism. As always, the track is written and produced entirely by John Goldrust.

In essence, How Like The Goddess serves up a rich mix of emotion and energy. Beneath its upbeat rhythm lies a deep and reflective core, which is drawn from a past relationship experience that changed John’s life.
We appreciate how the song reflects on how ideas of female empowerment and modern media shape relationships today. It also questions where men fit into this new cultural balance. Inspired in part by Homer’s Odyssey, the song uses mythic imagery to manifest a story of emotional voyage and renewal. As an add on, the lyric “Cross the troubled waters” even nods to Paul Simon, in turn blending the personal with the universal! Musically, John tells us how the track draws on Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page’s influence.
Overall, the experience feels cathartic and cerebral, we always love the depth that John Goldrust creates with and have added How Like The Goddess to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography, and anticipate future releases!
