Our obsession with The Boy Blue seems to grow with every listen. We recently featured the prophetic and consciously realized, Penny To Drop, and the cinematic and emotive ode to his late father, I’m Your Son, so naturally, we couldn’t wait to share his latest release, Blue and Yellow.
Immersing us with a delicate guitar soundscape, The Boy Blue opens Blue and Yellow with his signature timbre and an assertive message as he sings, “I want what you have, I’m gonna take it, I don’t care for the cost, I’m gonna shake it, what’s yours is mine and I’ll break it, I don’t care what you think, if you hate it…”
The opus expands with a high emotional quotient as The Boy Blue shares an important and zeitgeist message – sharing his art as activism. The song serves as a heartfelt and socially conscious piece that expresses solidarity with the people affected by the war between Russia and Ukraine. Whilst the song doesn’t mention either country explicitly, its title referencing the colours of the Ukrainian flag, and its emotional tone make the message unmistakable.
At its core, Blue and Yellow is about empathy, awareness, and support in the face of human suffering caused by conflict. The Boy Blue uses his platform to shed light on the struggles of those living through war. It is clear that the song aims to inspire compassion and reflection.

He confesses, “I wanted to show my support as well as highlight the struggles going on in the region. While I appreciate I am not in this war, or experiencing this everyday. I acknowledge the difficulty it must be to live day to day. I would hope the lyrics explained my stand point, how I feel about the conflict itself and anything that continues to raise awareness has to be a positive. “
There is no doubt that the song captures The Boy Blue‘s belief that music can be a powerful form of advocacy and emotional expression. Even when words alone can’t capture the full weight of such tragedy. That said, the delivery of the lyrics, “I don’t wanna live in this war zone, I just want my home to be my home…” are incredible.
Recorded at his home, the track’s intimate production mirrors its sincerity. It has moved us to tears, and serves a personal and humble gesture of solidarity from an artist who wants to make a difference through his art. It also continues The Boy Blue’s ongoing commitment to writing music that’s relevant, real, and resonant with current global issues, blending Southern rock and country blues influences with meaningful, emotionally charged storytelling.
We have added Blue and Yellow to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of The Boy Blue, and anticipate future releases from the visionary artist.
