Establishing the mood with a fierce and dimensional guitar soundscape, Paul Gehl opens On the Other Side with instrumental mastery and a timeless rock energy. The opus expands with precision and an assertive vibe and the introspective lyrics, “Sometimes I wish I was someone else, sometimes I feel I’m not myself…”
We appreciate the candid message and the relatable nature of the prose, which both feel zeitgeist in these times. The track holds a high emotional quotient and is equally stadium ready. The poetic prowess is tangible, and there is an undeniable cinematic allure.
On the Other Side would be perfect for a movie like Limitless or a coming of age Hollywood film. Lyrics like, “I’m just a stranger, walking in the rain, everything around me is drenched in pain…” really stand out metaphorically and philosophically.
Speaking on his influences for the seven and a half minute opus, Paul confesses, “A major influence are for sure Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and some metal bands, but basically I’m trying to create something personal and express myself emotionally.”

The guitar solo is out of this world – transcendental and refined – sending us astral, and once again showcasing the artist’s incredible technique. Overall, On the Other Side serves as a deeply personal and sonically rich work.
It encapsulates the Luxembourg-based artist’s introspective approach to music-making. We learn that it was recorded entirely in his home studio, and stands out as one of Paul’s favourite ever creations.
Paul Gehl began his solo project in 2022 after a career-altering injury forced him to shift from classical and flamenco guitar to electric guitar and songwriting. In essence, On the Other Side reflects notions of transformation, merging his technical background with raw emotion.
We love what Paul Gehl is creating, and have added On the Other Side to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography, including Without a Trace, and Think About You.
