Establishing the mood with an epic alternative rock soundscape with thrashing guitars and a cerebral countdown and liftoff, The Party After opens Blast Off with the escapist lyrics, “I’m floating away, I’m lost out in space, I’m never coming down, not after all I’ve found…”
Immediately we connect with the relatability of the track. The message feels zeitgeist, especially considering the nature of reality right now. The song is in essence about the dream of fame and the reality behind it, but the message is also open to a more universal decree. It symbolizes notions of ambition and the excitement of chasing success as the band floats away, feeling unstoppable and distant from reality.
As the lyrics repeat and the tone changes. The dreams of being a star – fancy cars, fame, and success – start to seem empty. The Party After questions how anyone could know what it’s really like. The glamour hides coldness and loneliness, like space itself. Metaphorically, the track is pretty genius.
By the end, the song turns reflective. The band has reached fame but now understands its cost. The line “Well, now you know” feels like a warning – success can take us higher, but it can also make us crash out. The track is perfect for a range of sync deals – a Hollywood based movie on fame or perhaps a TV show like HBO’s Euphoria.
On the story behind the release, The Party After confess, “After years of turmoil, from being robbed on tour to being issued legal papers from an ex band mate to being used and abused by poor management and empty promises, this band has stuck things out over an intensely heartbreaking career. There’s many reasons it took some of these songs more than a decade to finally be put out into the world, and Blast Off is the big opening track of the album for a reason. It’s a premonition and a warning of what’s to come if you go all in to chase fame and glory.”
The band continues, “This one is really neat to us, because it signifies the beginning of the adventure that is the album Dopamine Machine. It’s a countdown to barreling headfirst into what you want in life, no matter the cost, and though the lyrics of the track are foreboding and bring a sense of overall ominous warning, there’s an excitement and a young lust for life within the track that’s embodied by the wall of guitar, frenetic drums, and thundering bass. This is a hoorah for rock n’ roll, and a signal of a turning point in rock. Songs like this entice the listener to dig deeper and see the deeper meaning behind the veil of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll.”
With Blast Off, The Party After ignite a statement. The track’s relentless energy and carefully layered instrumentation act as a warning and an invitation. It draws us into a world where ambition collides with consequence. We love the track, and have added Blast Off to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we stream the entirety of Dopamine Machine!
