Drawing us in with an ethereal synthscape and intricate nature sounds, Jesabel opens Woman in the Woods with a captivating, atmospheric vocal performance as she sings, “The woman in the woods holds a candle to your soul, the woman in the woods writes the stories yet untold…”
We are immediately hypnotized by the opus, and the poetic prowess that manifests through the fantastical brand of narrative-driven songwriting that unfolds. Woman in the Woods expands with a textured beat and a high emotional and spiritual quotient as Jesabel paints a mysterious, evocative portrait of divine femininity.
Woman in the Woods has a cinematic allure, perfect for a range of sync deals – perhaps a future Twilight movie or a reinterpretation of Hocus Pocus. Speaking on the release, Jesabel confesses, “In a society currently built on botox and algorithm illusions, this other breed of woman is often misunderstood and typically an outcast, though let’s be honest she has been for centuries. Woman in the Woods is a storybook painting of the modern mystic retreating into nature but willing to guide and help those that seek her wisdom. She’ll be the mirror to help you see your truest self, but will also let everything burn to the ground when it’s time to rebuild something new.”
The music video serves as a visual poem set amidst the enchanting forests of Sintra, Portugal. Immersing herself fully in the story, Jesabel lived in a storybook cottage atop a mystical mountain whilst filming. The intention? To embody the song’s themes of intuition, rebirth and connection to nature as a masterclass in method acting. The visuals capture the ethereal beauty of both the artist and her surroundings, painting Jesabel as a modern mystic – a guide, healer, and truth-bringer.
Naturally, we are in awe of what Jesabel is creating, and her sonic and visual universe. We have added Woman in the Woods to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Jesabel‘s wider discography, including We Both Know, and Just Do You.
