Establishing the mood with a playful guitar soundscape and textured percussion, Benjamin Quartz opens Pyromane with minimalist dimensionality and metaphorical prose. The energy immediately reminds us of the iconic French artist -M- (Matthieu Chedid), particularly the song Pick Pocket from his debut album Le Baptême – a niche reference, I know!
Pyromane is a song full of passion and emotion and extremely intelligently written. The lyricism is high concept and clever – drawing parallels to notions of love on fire – a symbol for passion, desire, and intensity, showing how love can be both tender and dangerous.
The violin presence adds a high emotional quotient, mystery and depth, and the Brazilian percussion and double bass manifest warmth and energy aligned with the passionate nature of the prose. Pyromane boasts a progressive cinematic quality – perfect for a sync deal for a Jean-Pierre Jeunet film!

Speaking on the release, Benjamin confesses, “Pyromane is about the ambiguous sweetness at the heart of the inferno — where love and its excesses burn gently rather than destroy. I wanted the delicacy of the strings to contrast with the fiery title, so the song carries both tenderness and passion. With Brazilian rhythms, handclaps, and castanets, it becomes almost like a dance around the flames – a fire that warms the soul instead of consuming it.”
We love the journey of the track and the allure that comes to life with the unique production and conceptual lyricism of his muse who is half woman and half fire. We have added Pyromane to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, as well as our personal French Baddies playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Benjamin Quartz, including the entirety of his album, Myope.
