Establishing the mood with cerebral percussion and a haunting melody with brooding bass notes and dramatic string chops, Melting Phase opens Suffocating Swan with dimensionality and cinematic allure. Needless to say, we are captivated.
The opus expands with astral keys as we are guided further into a genre expansive universe with what appears to be a zeitgeist message – a warning about the fate of our shared reality. A meditative moment creates silence, allowing for reflection before the tempo of the percussion picks up and the sense of urgency manifests.
We appreciate the dynamism of the composition. There is no doubt that it feels perfect for a movie soundtrack – perhaps a James Bond 007 film, a natural disaster film, or a mystery drama. Speaking on the release, composer Mert confesses, “It tells the last moments of a Swan, it is an allegory to life, it is about the crushing pressure of life and this is reflected by the fierce nature of the composition. Quite a dark piece.”

Mert adds, “The track has a deliberate narrative arc – from fragile beauty to an intense struggle and a final, tragic resolution. It offers emotional catharsis.” The build is magnetic and culminates in maximalism and a subtle breakdown with a strings outro.
Positioned as the cornerstone of Melting Phase’s ongoing exploration of “grace under pressure,” Suffocating Swan serves as a fusion of organic and electronica that feels evocative and perfect for lost souls seeking solace in music.
We have added Suffocating Swan to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Melting Phase’s growing body of work, including I Took The Train, and The Maze Called Home.
