Establishing the mood with a meditative frequency and a dimensional guitar performance, Taylor Lally opens Yabadabadooda with textured percussion and a refined kick as she sings, “All eyes cling to you, so no surprise she’s with you, I wondered how you been since your time travel in paradigm trip, did you find love or stoke the fire?”
The opus expands with a reflective narrative, poetic prowess and a captivating delivery as Taylor Lally shares a timeless vibe with innovative timbre and cerebral commentary. We deeply appreciate her self-astute wit and precision.
There is a delicate nature that manifests, with the glistening soundscape and Taylor’s astral vocals. The track is dreamy and clever. The middle eight adds allure and drama, and we can imagine how incredible this would be to experience live.
We learn how the song was inspired by a past lover who spoke “light language,” Taylor confesses that she found both “humour and wonder in the experience”. She says, “I thought it was funny, but also kind of magical. So I wrote a song about it.”
Taylor exudes star power and we learn that Yabadabadooda was recorded and produced with Ian Barter, who is known for his work with Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith, and Dermot Kennedy! The accompanying music video sees Taylor in her element at the beach with a raw energy that draws us further into her world.
It is abundantly clear that Taylor Lally is full of charisma and personality, and this manifests with her art. The songwriter and performer from County Down, Northern Ireland, draws comparisons to Rickie Lee Jones vocally and John Martyn on guitar. She is shaped by her coastal upbringing near Millisle and her early musical explorations starting at the age of thirteen.
Having studied songwriting at BIMM Brighton, launched her independent label Saturn Rising Records, and supported artists like Joachim Cooder, Mary Coughlan, and Teddy Thompson, she is now ushering in a bold new chapter, whilst preparing to bring her evocative, genre-blurring music to life on stage with her band in 2026!
In the meantime, we have added Yabadabadooda to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream Taylor Lally‘s growing discography, including the entirety of her self-titled 2024 album!
