Drawing us in with textured drums and an astral melody with rhythm guitar and a timeless alternative rock melody, Sdante opens Your Smile Got Me with poetic prowess and a captivating timbre, as he sings, “Staring at the phone, hoping you’re gonna text me back…”
We immediately connect with the authenticity that manifests, and Sdante‘s narrative driven brand of storytelling. There is charm and relatability to his message. We love the high emotional quotient of the chord choices, which remind us of iconic 90s rockers.
Speaking on the release, Sdante confesses, “Your Smile Got Me represents a punchy pop rock sound and tells a strong and melancholic personal story about a failed love affair.”
There is a cinematic allure to the track, and we could imagine Your Smile Got Me locking in a range of synch deals, perhaps a forthcoming episode of the new Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot or a Hollywood coming of age movie.

The guitar solo and cerebral outro are simply transcendental, and overall, fans of Smashing Pumpkins, Elliott Smith, Bush and Blur as well as French rock acts like Noir Désir or -M- would be able to vibe with what Sdante is creating, though Sdante tells us that his compositions draw influence from English pop and rock, with artists such as The Wombats, Fyfe, and The Kooks.
The Norman artist fuses electro sounds with catchy electric guitar riffs, and his exploration of modern pop with lyrics that evoking “youthful mistakes and the transition to adulthood” feels extremely zeitgeist, and self-realized.
Naturally, we have added Your Smile Got Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Sdante, including his incredible covers of Running Up That Hill, and Everybody Wants To Rule The World.
