We recently featured Shelita when she shared her high spiritual quotient with the dynamic track, You Will Want My Love, so when we heard that the star was one step closer to unveiling her album with the release of Fade, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience!
Establishing the mood with a meditative synth that feels like the overarching theme of the album – the element of water – specifically waves in this case, Shelita opens Fade with vocals that are delicate and remind us of FKA Twigs.
This swiftly switches up as padded drums and experimental nuances emerge. Shelita showcases her assertive energy with a bold statement when she sings the hook! We love the ebbs and flows of the track, again, very sonically aligned with the concept of the wider record. The down-pitched vocal layers are genius, and we connect with the philosophical message of the song.
Manifestation and survival serve as key themes here. The star invites us to close our eyes and imagine a reality that we desire. For Shelita, this was simply surviving her accident. There is a nod to heaven or the afterlife with the lyrics, “This could be the last time that we see each other…”. The shimmering synths feel like the sun rippling on the top of the water, or a portal to the next realm.

We learn that Fade is a collaboration between Shelita, Bellringer, and Lamar Van Sciver, designed to capture the fragile beauty of fleeting moments. The song is a meditation on presence and the inevitability of change. “Fade is for anyone who’s ever lost someone, and for those who are aware that any meeting could be the last. It’s about embracing connection while we have it”, confesses the visionary artist.
Naturally, we have added Fade to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Shelita, including her self titled album from 2019, SHELITA!
