Drawing us in with a syncopated organ performance with a textured riser, Talon David opens Paradise State of Mind with an introspective nature, as she sings, “Got a lot of questions, no answers to them, a world of choices and indecision…”
The opus expands with luscious harmonies, a baritone ukulele and a boundless pop energy as Talon David invites us to connect with the notion of inner peace. We appreciate the intentional nature of the song, and the poetic prowess that manifests with Talon’s prose. Her timbre is captivating, and we deeply connect with the way that she brings to life her message. We learn that the multidisciplinary artist wrote, performed, arranged, produced, mixed and mastered the track – and this authenticity is tangible.
Talon confesses, “Paradise State of Mind is a relentlessly positive defense against bad mental health.” She adds, “I wrote Paradise State of Mind during COVID, as I muscled through my shift at the Barista Parlor in the Nashville International airport. My need to travel was overwhelming, so I crafted this song to be a tad of a lifeline for tackling restlessness until we could travel again. Five years later, I live abroad and still struggle with restlessness. It seemed like the perfect time to share this relentlessly upbeat tune.”

On the importance of the release, Talon says, “It’s significant because it’s realistically positive and sarcastically upbeat, like a fun-loving flipping the bird at the anxiety-mongers of our modern time. I think our world needs more songs that bring genuine smiles and aren’t all bubblegum.”
Paradise State of Mind feels like catharsis, and is important for society because it channels the collective restlessness felt during the COVID era into something joyfully defiant. It serves as an antidote to modern anxiety, reminding us that peace isn’t a place – it’s a mindset.
