Drawing us in with an astral frequency with metallic nuance and the sound of whistling wind, expanding with a brooding bass tone, akin to an “aum” – like the vibration of our home planet, This Great Endeavour opens Memories of Drumadoon with dimensionality and a high spiritual quotient.
An almost folk-esque melody intertwines with bird sounds and a cinematic allure, fit for an epic Hollywood movie like an Avatar sequel. Ripping waves further dynamize the opus before a stunning strings riff and ethereal sounds immerse us further into This Great Endeavour‘s sonic universe.
We appreciate the instrumental mastery that manifests, and the overarching energy that transmutes with the piece. For reference, Drumadoon is a 640 acre estate on the South West Coast of the Isle of Arran, Scotland. It has ancient roots and overlooks the Kilbrannan Sound and the Mull of Kintyre.
This ancient energy is brought to life vividly with the composition. We are reminded of its rich history and the ancestral nature of our planet and indeed the wider cosmos. We learn from the creators that the single seeks to capture the essence of the magical place. It naturally evokes “images of the sea, wind, sun, boats, oystercatchers, swimmers, happy golfers, strident walkers and other smiling visitors.”

The intimate crowd noises that appear towards the final quarter of the piece tap into a human element, uniting our physical bodies with nature and the expansive of the universe. The final moment brings to life a repeated riff with the signature melody of the piece – a full circle moment that leaving us yearning for another trip to Drumadoon and beyond.
Memories of Drumadoon was recorded at Abbey Drive Studios in Glasgow, Scotland, and engineered by Juan Pablo V in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The track features performances and samples by Danjocross on the foghorn, Freesound Community for the wind howl, JimSim for oystercatchers, Morgan Film for walking on stone beach, and Tapix sharing their spirit on the uilleann pipes.
Naturally, we have added Memories of Drumadoon to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of This Great Endeavour, including Don’t, Breaking the Ice, and Gustav Pluie which also boasts a high spiritual quotient and dimensional sound with astral tones – released in January of this year!
