Establishing the mood with a super cerebral soundscape, with dimensional synths and atmospheric vocal textures, reverse glitches and intricate sounds design nuances, Dissidence opens Molly with a trippy energy that we are simply obsessed with.
The dynamism expands with high hats and a subtle snare as we experience the main body of the opus with lyrics touching on drug addiction and the sentiment of a complicated lived experience. The piece feels relatable, and we deeply connect with the complimentary sonic landscape and message.
Molly is cohesive, but also experimental. There is a cinematic allure to the track – perfect for a TV show like HBO’s Euphoria or Netflix’s Elite. Speaking on the release, Dissidence cites GothBoiClique, Salem, and Smokedope2016 as influences, which we can feel come through with Molly, but there is no doubt that Dissidence is manifesting a universe of his own.
The artist, who hails from a southwest Chicago suburb, confesses, “Molly was heavily inspired by the people listed above. I really tried to create a harsh, hard-hitting, emotional track about drug addiction and feeling lost in life because it’s something I personally relate to, and I know a lot of other people do as well.”
The emerging artist adds, “My goal with this song, and with my music in general, is to make something people can relate to, something that helps with mental health. Other artists have done the same for me, and it truly helped me get through my own tough situations.”

We appreciate the intentional depth and the catharsis that manifests from listening to Molly. Dissidence says, “This track isn’t just music – it’s a reflection of pain, survival, and the hope that someone out there hears it and feels a little less alone.”
Naturally, we love what Dissidence is creating, and have added Molly to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to explore the artist’s wider discography, including the slowed and reverbed version of the song, as well as the instrumental!
