Drawing us in with a glissando dive bomb, expanding with vibrant, groove-adjacent keys, Jon Gold opens Breaking the Ice with a cosmic nature, astral vocal-synth details and an orchestral, almost other worldly energy.
The opus feels empowering and enlightening, as we are taken on a cinematic journey with intricate instrumental mastery, a timeless nuance and poetic grace. We appreciate the uplifting sentiment and the dimensional nature of the soundscape.
The piano performances are nothing short of transcendental – celestial keys envelop us, amplifying the cosmic adventure that we are experiencing. We learn that Breaking the Ice is in fact the opening track of Jon Gold‘s album, Chasing Echoes.
Released through Entropic Records, Chasing Echoes serves as a bold and genre-defying collection of original compositions. We learn that the record draws inspiration from years spent in Brazil and Jon’s broader love for global music traditions.

Co-produced by and featuring renowned drummer Mauricio Zottarelli, Chasing Echos is designed to reflect the deep musical and personal bond between the two artists. Fore example, the composition Nine for Mz, written in a challenging 9/4 time signature, is a heartfelt tribute to Zottarelli’s enduring support and musical excellence.
The emotional range and stylistic diversity of Chasing Echos are vast, touching on everything from the aforementioned Brazilian rhythms to notions of Stravinsky and Coltrane. With contributions from elite vocalists and instrumentalists, including Marina Marchi and Toninho Ferragutti, Jon Gold has crafted an opus that resonates both intellectually and emotionally, stirring the soul with it’s vibrant nature and cohesive excellence.
We have added Breaking the Ice to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the entire album, and anticipate future release from the visionary artist!
