Our obsession with Paulo and the Problems seems to grow with every release. We previously featured them for the sublime, Summer Rain, and the charming, First of the Month, so when we heard that their ongoing unveil of their album, Stupid Sexy Paulo, included the release of Lotus Blanc, we were excited to listen and share our experience!
Establishing the mood with a glistening and dimensional soundscape, Paulo and the Problems opens Lotus Blanc with a progressive hybrid energy fusing genres – a touch of psychedelia, blue eyed soul with an R&B vocal performed by label mate Dude Low.
“You dream of venture, in your little room, getting old is hard, when you freeze in the past…” sings Dude Low with a textured vocal design, almost ethereal. The hook is giving a ying and yang metaphorical depth with the words, “The white lotus, turns into black…”
Speaking on the release, the creators tell us, “It’s a love letter to late-night thoughts, past relationships, and future hopes.” The soundscape is nothing short of transcendental, and we appreciate the intricacy and emotional depth that is conveyed with trippy introspection.
We learn that Lotus Blanc is the third single from Paulo and the Problems’ upcoming album out July 11 via Fogwood Records. The animated music video sees a continuation of the adventures of Paulo’s trusty dog Nico, as he journeys through “a surreal, neon-lit dreamscape in search of clarity, calm, and connection.”
We always deeply appreciate the authentic sound of Paulo and the Problems, and have added the zeitgeistly titled Lotus Blanc to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream Summer Rain, and First of the Month, and anticipate the release of Stupid Sexy Paulo on July 11!
