Establishing the mood with a dimensional bass performance, expanding with melodic guitar and textured drums with searing cymbal details into a dynamic and soulful classic rock energy with power pop adjacency, Arcane Grace open Any Other Way with situational and relatable prose.
There is a cinematic allure to the track, and it feels perfect for a massive synch deal with its warm and personal narrative – perhaps a coming of age movie of a Netflix romantic comedy. The instrumental performances are sublime, and the guitar solo that emerges is simply transcendental.
Thematically, Any Other Way revolves around a person wishing for things to have been different in the name of love, but becoming disillusioned and heartbroken. They entered the relationship with hope, not imagining how it would end. Now that it’s passed, they are coming to terms with it. They question if this was how it was supposed to go.
Arcane Grace reflect on how despite the fact that their muse is now in a relationship with someone else, the memories remain. By the end, they appear to accept what occurred. They know it made them grow. The writing style is laced with emotive and poetic prowess, written in the conversational style, using simple words with a heartfelt energy.
Repetition is used emphatically particularly in the chorus, conveying a sense of longing. The final chorus chord change is an emotional highlight of the song, and the outro is playful and timeless, leaving us yearning for more.
We learn that the track was born from Andrea Leigh‘s poignant lyrics, inflused with Ryan Bale‘s soulful bass performance, and Matt Tucci‘s “nucleic groove”. Arcane Grace cite Durand Jones, Thee Sacred Souls, and James Jamerson as sonic influences, which we can feel come through, although there is no doubt that they are manifesting a soul-rock meets power-pop universe of their own.
Arcane Grace was formed in 2024 after a chance meeting at a rock school pickup. Any Other Way was recorded live at Clear Lake Recording Studios, which has hosted the likes of No Doubt and even Wiz Khalifa.
It is no surprise that Arcane Grace is already gaining attention in the LA music scene, and we cannot wait to see further growth from them.
