Drawing us in with textured drums and an atmospheric guitar soundscape, Sophia Warren opens Static with metaphorical and situational prose as she sings, “On its way to September, on its way to July, I won’t stop to recall, what it felt to be that guy…”
The opus expands with a captivating vocal timbre from Sophia, as she taps into the notions of the uneasy silence that is left in the wake of emotional rupture – where words reverberate, guilt clings, and closure remains just out of reach.
Speaking on the release, Sophia Warren confesses, “It’s about the kind of memory that plays on loop,. The moments you misheard, the ones you can’t forget, and the grief that lives in the background like noise.”
We deeply connect with the philosophical energy that transmutes, and Sophia’s songwriting reminds us of Lana Del Rey and Billie Eilish, whilst her chord choices are reminiscent of The Beatles. We learn that the track was produced by Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), and was designed to feel “like a dream fading in reverse—a track that sits in the tension of regret and revelation.”
Static holds a high emotional quotient and the instrumental performances are sublime, whilst Sophia’s range is admirable, especially her broody bass tones! It is no surprise that the rising star has endorsements from SPIN, KUTX, and was recently named one of Austin’s 25 Artists Leading the Pack by the Austin American-Statesman.
Naturally, we have added Static to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we immerse ourselves in the song’s visualizer and lyric video, and continue to stream Sophia Warren‘s wider discography, including GRIN and Purple!
