Genevieve Sovereign‘s magnum opus STARSEEDS WANTED: enquire within finally landed earlier this year, and boast a dimensional sound with a conscious and philosophically intellectual perspective. We have been following the expansion of the avant-garde artiste, and wanted to spotlight one of the album tracks, namely – Saturn in Chinos, and it’s accompanying visual!
The track opens with an almost cerebral wail, like a vortex in space, expanding with metallic textured like we are on a space ship, looking out into the universe. Genevieve Sovereign shares her voice with Björk style vocals and metaphorical lyrics inviting us into her conscious world. There’s a little bit of Bowie intertwined, and we connect deeply with the resonance of the star’s vocals.
The track trips into a darker realm as Genevieve Sovereign presence becomes more existential before a ticking clock energy ground us in the present moment. As for the visual, it feels psychedelic and despite the spacey vibe of the song, it actually manifests on Earth and nature.
We learn that the music video is directed and produced by Leong Chan, with artistic consultation from Genevieve Sovereign‘s longtime movement coach and multidisciplinary artist friend Jessica Angelique Gabrielli.
The visual was filmed across two key Melbourne, Australia locations in early 2025. The star tell us, “Its aesthetic synergises organically flowing cross-disciplinary movement approaches, with techniques inspired by ground-breaking pieces such as the Grimes‘ Genesis“, and Chloe Qisha‘s 21st Century Cool Girl.
Genevieve describes choosing Saturn in Chinos as the album’s lead single, “…Both because of how much it means to me personally, as well as how perfectly it encapsulates what I’ve hoped to achieve for the album. Not only does it chronicle vital parts of my own journey as an artist and a human, but this piece’s evolution has manifested some truly humbling accomplishments – such as being my first ever professionally shot music video, and also having the honour of Becki Whitton (AKA, Aphir) as its producer.”
Naturally, we have added Saturn in Chinos to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the expansive entirety of the album, and await future visual delights from the pioneering creative!
