Our obsession with Emerald Bluffs seems to grow with every listen, so when we heard that the band was back with Sleeplessly Dreaming, we couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in the project’s universe once again and share our experience.
Setting the tone with a dramatic, electric guitar melody, Emerald Bluffs open Sleeplessly Dreaming with a brooding, introspective nature as they share the prose, “I’m sleepless on a stormy night, dreaming of another life, I’m not alone, but I am lonely, my grief is left with nowhere to go…”
Th opus expands with hummed ad libs and poetic prowess with luscious, almost echoes harmonies – the overarching experience is trippy, grunge-tinged and making for a perfect cinematic vibe which we could imagine being performed at The Bronze in the upcoming reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, whilst a montage of footage is shown bringing to life the message of the song.
We learn that Sleeplessly Dreaming is a reflection of Isaac Harris‘ “journey towards self-discovery and healing.” It is inspired by personal experiences, including “a car accident that lent new meaning to the song’s lyrics and to Harris’ life”.
We appreciate the poignant depth and how it brings to life a portrayal of human struggles and desires with an existential twist. There is a high emotional quotient that manifests through Emerald Bluffs‘ artistry, and the second half of the song with an almost meditative breakdown from the middle eight onwards feels extremely intimate, poetic and raw.
Isaac Harris confesses, “This release is significant to me because it is the most raw and emotional song I have released. It takes a deep introspective look into my soul and also exposes some of my darker truths to the world. This song also feels more advanced and complete than some of my other releases. This song is significant to others because it sheds light on some of our deepest desires as human beings: a desperate search for love, the deep desire to survive, and the heartbreaking struggle to keep moving forward. With this track I hope I can connect with more individuals who fight day by day to get by.”
He adds, “This song bares my whole heart. My broken mind. And a healing soul. I couldn’t imagine a song that better showcased my darkest days. I hope it connects with those who feel like there is no way out.”
