We recently featured Paulo and the Problems for their relatable and charming new collaboration with Saynave, First of the Month, so when we heard that the band was back with Summer Rain – the sophomore single leading up to new album Stupid Sexy Paulo, we couldn’t wait to continue the sonic journey and share our experience.
“I just wanna dance with you, come in with you, with hands to feel, make plans to move…” sings Mekfly as he opens the opus with a charming timbre, atmospheric vocal production, intertwined with a soulful and almost jazz-adjacent energy.
The production is sublime and the narrative-based journey that we are taken on by the band and Mekfly is serene, poetic and captivating. We appreciate the nuanced situational journey of the protagonist’s phone battery dying which invites us to appreciate the disconnect with technology, so that we can in turn connect with each other.
The harmonic ad libs featured in Summer Rain are nothing short of transcendental, and add to the value of the accompanying soundscape which paint a vibrant picture of the situation that we are enchanting.
There’s definitely a dose of nostalgia herein, however, the actual production of the track and vocals is nothing short of contemporary futurism. It has a moody and melodic vibe tapping into notions of “fleeting romance and introspection.”
Summer Rain also serves up the second instalment in the animated visual series featuring the band’s mascot Nico, adding an amplified visual storyline to the album rollout! Naturally, we have added Summer Rain to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream First of the Month, and await the release of Stupid Sexy Paulo this Summer!
