Setting the tone with textured drums, astral frequencies and atmospheric ad libs, creating an immersive and cohesive tapestry of sound, Jenny Maybee opens Call Me with a fierce and assertive nature as she sings, “I’m a devil on the water, I’m the queen of the night, I’m the blooming flower of your deepest desire, I don’t need to be an angel whispering in your ear, you can feel it all around you, anytime I’m near…”
What we love about this is the dimensionality in Jenny’s presence, and the overarching sentiment showing us that she does indeed contain multitudes – as a person, and as an artist. The hook goes, “Call me devil, call me queen, call me anything you please… there are no words for this energy…”
Jenny Maybee is the universe, and so are you and I. Singing consciously written songs like this that reminds us that we embody a plethora of energies is extremely empowering and important, and that is what Jenny brings to life with her artistry.
On her influences for the track, Jenny comments, “Vocally, this track draws heavy inspiration from Annie Lennox – cool, commanding, and sensual with zero need to ask for permission. There’s also a little Portishead, a little BANKS, a little Nine Inch Nails if it took a deep breath and let its hips move.”
We love the guitar presence, and the boundless nature that comes to life with the track. Jenny performs as a rockstar siren and shares a fierce rap verse to cement the power that Call Me manifests.

Jenny elaborates, “The groove on this track is unmistakable. It’s 100bpm, but it moves in waves—sensual, spacious, and undeniable. The drums are hypnotic, the bass is thick, the guitar growls just enough, and the synths shimmer like distant lights in the dark. And then there’s that chorus. It commands. It’s magnetic and massive. It doesn’t ask to be remembered – it etches itself in your chest. This song woke me up when I wrote it.”
There is no doubt that Jenny Maybee is a true artist. Her soul is on this album and that is undeniable. There is no-one like her and we can hope that her cinematic sound would garner a multitude of synch deals – perhaps Call Me would be perfect for the upcoming Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot!
Naturally, we have added Call Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream Jenny Maybee‘s exquisite, growing discography, including Like The Sun, and Ain’t No Better Lover!
