Establishing the mood with a cerebral frequency, immersive percussive elements and intricate yet industrial melodic nuances, expanding with clicks and a dimensional bass, Ana April opens Unarmed and Naked with atmospheric vocals as she sings, “You thought I was a fighter, I am, I am, but not today…”
The opus expands with a self-realized and avant-garde nature that feels like what might manifest if Björk was asked to make a James Bond 007 soundtrack. What Ana April is creating is wholly unique, cinematic, and alluring, whilst fusing elements of trip-hop.
“Here I am, intoxicated, drowned and soaked in your love…unarmed and naked…” sings the siren as she seduces us with her high concept universe. We connect with the luscious ad libs and sound design that is ever changing with repeated hooks that linger in our minds long after the song is finished.
We learn that the release is designed to explore “the vulnerability of surrender, to people, to life, without the false security of barriers.” It is “a reflection on arriving and leaving this world unarmed, questioning prestige and ego.”

The metaphorically taps into the notions of vulnerability and surrender, which mirrors Ana’s broader creative philosophy, where music, visual design, and symbolism converge to form an immersive, emotionally resonant experience.
To bring her multi-disciplinary work to life, Ana April has expanded her artistic practice to include stage and exhibition design, further deepening her interest in dramaturgy. This now significantly shapes her musical process, maintaining a delicate balance between conceptual planning and intuitive creation.
We have added Unarmed and Naked to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Ana April, including her debut single, Twenty One, and her sophomore single, Imprints.
