Establishing the mood with an immersive, dimensional synthscape and the iconic quote from the 1985 film, The Goonies, “Wait wait wait… because these are somebody else’s wishes, they’re somebody else’s dreams….” Statues opens Time Down Here with a cinematic allure.
The opus expands with emotive chords and a pulsating beat with astral detailing whilst the movie quotes loop like a cerebral hook. We appreciate the creativity and the journey that Statues takes us on. A rhythmic synth taps into a higher octane energy as the composition grows with percussion and dynamism.
Time Down Here is the debut offering from Statues, who cites The Tough Alliance, French 79, and Beach House as sonic influences, which we can feel come through, although there is no doubt that the composer is manifesting a universe of their own. Statues confesses how the track reflects themes of loss, change, and healing. It was recorded in a small basement studio, and there is no doubt that its intimate setting adds a personal feel.
Speaking on the story behind the release, Statues confesses, “Time Down Here came out of a personal threshold. The song captures that tension: the weight of memory, the ache of what’s gone, and the quiet pull toward what’s next. It’s about staying in that space long enough for something to shift. The music reflects that – looping, restrained, and then finally breaking open into something alive, maybe even hopeful.”

Statues adds, “What made the recording process unique was the decision to let the song breathe – intentionally building patience into the structure. There’s over a minute of tension before the track begins to open up, and that was a deliberate choice: to earn the finale rather than rush it. The synths were treated like architecture – airy, spaced out, and layered to feel suspended in time. Some were stretched and filtered until they felt almost weightless. The goal wasn’t to fill space, but to shape it. That restraint is what made the eventual crescendo feel earned, like a release that had been quietly waiting.”
We deeply connect with the intention that manifests with the composition and the cathartic, philosophical approach to song creation that Statues is bringing to life with their creative universe. We will be adding Time Down Here to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists when it debuts on Spotify, and we look forward to future releases from Statues!
