Our obsession with AUNCE seems to grow with every release, so you can imagine our excitement and curiosity to learn that her latest single was titled, Zoo Friend! Naturally, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Enticing us with a cerebral wood block sound and panning textured, expanding with luscious synths, AUNCE opens Zoo Friend with the cosmic dimensionality that we have come to love from the talented song creator.
There is a psychedelic edge to her work, which transmutes once again with Zoo Friend. Astral nuances that manifest an almost out of body experience as we immerse ourselves in her universe. Fans of Björk will be able to connect with Zoo Friend. We are sure that she is one of AUNCE‘s influences, and rightly so.
Speaking on the message of the song, AUNCE confesses, “Zoo Friend is a spacious, emotive track about deep interconnection with non-human life, and the grief that comes with witnessing its dismissal.”

As a vegan platform, we connect deeply with this intentional message. AUNCE continues, “The lyrics are sparse and intimate, like a memory surfacing, leaving room to feel rather than analyse. Gently shifting rhythms and textured production invite a sense of sway and disorientation, echoing moments when reality is softly shaken awake. Vocal layers blur between clarity and haze, as if filtering through different levels of perception. It’s a song that doesn’t insist, but opens a space – to tune in, feel deeply, and maybe even remember something ancient.”
This really does come to life with the vocal design and the trippy, celestial synth that emerges to remind us that we indeed are the universe, and so are the animals. We are in awe of this art as activism, something that we love to experience with musicians. AUNCE is showing us that she is the future, and that liberation for all is what the animals deserve, because no-one is free until we are all free.
The song is written, produced and performed by AUNCE, also known as Anna Edith Daly Edgington; and co-produced with Chris Hyson, mixed by TJ Allen, and mastered by Guy Davie. We have added Zoo Friend to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlist, whilst we await future releases from AUNCE.
