Setting the tone with astral, glitched textures and a subversive bassline, JEZTLS and Bandicut open Circles in the Car Park with intricacy, airy vocals and metallic nuance as they share the opening prose, “Do you still wanna go? I don’t wanna go now I’m not ready…”
The lyrics of Circles in the Car Park capture a notion of emotional hesitation and longing, set against a backdrop of late-night placidity. The hook, “Spinning circles in the car park at midnight…” forms a metaphor for being stuck in a loop, unable to move forward.
The overarching message and sound design manifest a moment suspended in time, where love, nostalgia, and loss blend cohesively together. Lines like “nobody’s gonna love you like before…” and “when you touch heaven you’ll always want more…” hint at the pain of knowing that something has changed, and the desire to hold onto a fleeting yet intense connection.
The opus has an intriguing and unique sense of dimensionality, and we are immersed in JEZTLS‘ universe, tripping into the sublime, cinematic and subversive energy that he creates. We learn that Circles in the Car Park is being released through JEZTLS‘ label, Virile Recordings. The dreamy, experimental track is a collaboration with Bandicut, a key figure in Lisbon’s Afro-electronic scene.

The track marks a comeback following a two-year break, and serves as the lead single from his upcoming project El Paradiso. With co-production by Bandicut and mastering by Martin Kuchta, the track demonstrates years of careful refinement.
JEZTLS, also known as artist and producer Jamie Staples, grew up in a small town in northern England and was immersed in internet culture from a young age. Starting out with classical music, he shifted into production as a teen, uploading his first project to SoundCloud at age 15. He built an international network of collaborators and earned early success with features on BBC and Spotify playlists. His artistic voice deepened in 2021 after personal trauma, leading to the emotional track Affair, praised for its bold, cinematic style.
We will be adding Circles in the Car Park to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY and TIMELESS playlists when it drops on Spotify, whilst we continue to stream JEZTLS‘ growing discography, and anticipate future releases from the rising visionary.
