We have been intently following the rise of KMALECTRO, having featured a slew of his singles, including Panta Rhei, digital Highway, and HUMAN RACE ! STOP. The artist is philosophical and yet fun, so when we heard that he was back with HOLA, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to share our experience!
Opening with a cerebral, glitch frequency, ethereal bells and refined production style with ad libs of the title of the track, HOLA, KMALECTRO shares a captivating and melodic guest vocal performance with introspective depth and a high emotional quotient.
It’s giving futuristic Latin-trap adjacency, and we deeply connect with the genius, genre expansive nature of the production both sonically and vocally. There are down pitched moments, and the soundscape is extremely refined.
We learn that the release is intended to mark a quiet yet powerful return to form, tapping into a high vibrational, self-healing energy. Fans of Arca, Rosalía and even James Blake or The Cure will be able to connect with HOLA, but there is no doubt that KMALECTRO is manifesting a universe of his own.
Speaking on the release, the star confesses, “I recorded the entire track alone in the studio. The turning point was a bassline I played spontaneously – it became the song’s foundation. Everything else followed. I work very intuitively – led by feeling, sound, and what’s present in the moment. A close friend was in the studio that day. Her presence mattered – not musically, but energetically.”
With reference to the inception, KMALECTRO adds, “The idea for this song came from a personal experience. Someone in my life – someone I deeply care about – was struggling with accepting different parts of themselves. This inner conflict moved me deeply. The song is a kind of response, but also a mirror. I often write about or for people who move me. In this case, it’s about the metaphor of ‘parts work’: learning to reconcile with all aspects of oneself – even the ones we try to hide. That’s where healing begins. That’s how peace happens.”
We love the depth that has gone into HOLA, and have added the masterpiece to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our TRIPPY and TIMELESS playlists, whilst we continue to stream KMALECTRO‘s growing discography, and anticipate future songs from this new era!
