Establishing the mood with an astral frequency and a dramatic baseline with textured toppers, cerebral nuance and an immersive nature, Stephanie Rodriguez opens Facades with a high emotional quotient as she sings, “It was only when I kept moving forward, I realised these streets were no good for me… Somehow I knew I’d pay the price even when I thought that I would be free…”
The opus expands with deep introspection and authenticity as Stephanie asks, “Where could we run to? Is there anyone out there? Anyone even care?” The message feels sincere, zeitgeist and poignant. There is more to the solely personal elements of the tale, and it feels like the overarching message has larger societal implications about the state of the collective mindset.
The switch up for the bridge is nothing short of magnetic, we enter a spacey universe, minimalist, meditative with compressed rising vocals and choral moments before a sublime and haunting finale with celestial harmonies.
Speaking on the recording process of Facades, Stephanie confesses, “I usually love to write music first before the lyrics. For me music composition is like a blank canvas at first and then you started adding all the colours. I have a lot of imagination when it comes to chord progressions and melodies and I gradually put things together.”
We learn that Stephanie composed and produced the song, and with reference to her inspiration she adds, “I am an electronic music fan by heart. There are a few electronic artists that I’m influenced by so I wanted to create something out of the ordinary and away from mainstream pop music. Something different.”
We deeply connect with the expansive and cinematic nature of the piece, and could imagine that Facades would garner numerous Hollywood level synch deals, perhaps for a futuristic sci-fi blockbuster even a psychological thriller.
Naturally, we have added Facades to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Stephanie Rodriguez‘s wider discography including the entirety of her 2020 EP, Crazy Game.
