Keen readers will know that we have been intently following the track-by-track unveiling of Jenny Maybee‘s highly anticipated incoming album, so naturally, we had to cover the latest instalment from the talented deity, Ain’t No Better Lover.
Opening with choral hummed vocals and a luscious piano riff, with textured percussion elements that remind us of a smokey jazz bar, Jenny opens Ain’t No Better Lover with her signature, expansive energy and a touch of seduction.
The track is spell-binding, with an almost mystical energy, laced with cinematic allure. Jenny becomes the temptress, and the rather literal lyrics feel poignant, as well as spiritual if you consider the universal implications of what Jenny’s message offers. Ain’t No Better Lover is definitely more than just a love song, it serves as a declaration of fierce sovereignty. Mid way through, Jenny even duets with herself in a moment of transcendent vulnerability.

Once again, Jenny has teamed up with Isha Erskine at The Mad Scientist Studios in Sebastopol, as well as drummer Nick Carico, whose presence feels very deep within this track. The fusion of blues, jazz, and gospel is poetic and cohesive – something that her wider record exudes as a whole.
Jenny cites Miles Davis, Nina Simone, and Muddy Waters, as sonic influences, which feels apt as she transmutes their essence into something unto her own. “My voice on this track isn’t about showing off, it’s about precision, presence, and letting the raw truth bleed through,” Jenny explains. She adds, “I didn’t come here to be palatable, I came here to be unforgettable!” This is exactly what this track delivers.
We have added Ain’t No Better Lover to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Jenny Maybee‘s growing discography, and anticipate the release of the entire album!
