We previously featured THE TRVLR for his spiritual fusion of organic house and poetic depth on Embrace Your Shadow, and again more recently for Dubois Snake Skin which served as a divine journey through vulnerability. When we heard that the talented and prophetic artist was back with his version of the iconic Sanskrit mantra, Om Namah Shivaya, we were excited to say the least, and couldn’t wait to experience his holistic universe once again.
The composition opens with bold, shamanic drums and acoustic guitar detailing, performed intricately. A cosmic vocal ad lib invites us deeper before THE TRVLR sings, “Divine grace I surrender, Holiness I remember you, Divinity I remember, Holiness I surrender to…” before sharing a layered and celestial “om shanti” mantra, evolving into a captivating performance of the title of the track. The bold didgeridoo accompaniment adds a deep spiritual quality to the performance, which feels psychedelic and immersive.
For some background, the mantra Om Namah Shivaya is a well-known Sanskrit chant that dates back thousands of years and is found in texts like the Shiva Purana. It means “I bow to Shiva,” and acknowledges the divine consciousness that resides in all beings.
We love the fusion of rock drums with the timeless message and spiritual soundscape that manifests from THE TRVLR‘s work. This is further brought to life in the accompanying visual, filmed and edited by Ed James Harding. Set at night, we see the creator with an incense stick, bringing to life his sonic universe with his own drum kit, candles, and a captivating performance of the mantras.
With reference to his choice of mantras, THE TRVLR confesses, “Om Shanti and Om Namah Shivaya not only evoke peace and transformation but also serve as a constant reminder of the sacred connection between mind, body, and spirit.” This is evident through THE TRVLR‘s wider body of work.
